What do the seahawks need to do, to fix the issue this off-season?

  1. You can teach fundamentals until the cows come home but it really just boils down to character and will.

  2. The Hawks need the football equivalent of those old Fred MCGriff x Tom Emanski defensive drills videos. It gets results.

  3. The defense and offensive line are in such a bad place yet we keep talking about replacing Geno Smith with the very limited draft capital we have.

  4. Honestly the entire defense needs an overhaul.

LBs who are not a liability in coverage, safeties that don’t suck, bigger, badder, nastier D-linemen, just people who fly around the field and make plays, who are physical, guys who want it.

Watch our D and then watch the Niners and Ravens. Those guys *want* it. They’re hungry and angry and vicious. Our guys are loafing around the fucking field like it’s a retirement center basketball game.

  5. This is the least surprising thing any of us have ever heard. There’s no toughness or at this point heart on that defense besides maybe 1 or 2 players. They don’t seem to give a damn and the game against the Steelers showed it.

I watch the Ravens and am envious because the Seahawks used to have a defense that physical and imposing. I saw the Ravens LB coach Zach Orr on the sideline hyping them up and his energy was intense and they fed off it. Now unfortunately the Seahawks defense is soft as baby shit and get dogwalked up and down the field by opposing offenses. I don’t know how or if they can fix it for next season

  6. Look, the defense is gassed because our offense only wants to throw the homerun ball and refuses to throw to the wide-open check downs over the middle. In other series, the offense runs up the gut for no gain and throws incomplete passes. This leads to quick three and outs, which gives the defense no time to rest. If the offense could play above their salary, the defense would be all world!

  7. Didn’t we lose a late draft pick one year for tackling too hard in practice or something? We should bring that back. So tired of all the missed tackles and YAC on defense. Guys will be in the right spot on 3rd and long, all they need to do is wrap up and we get off the field, and they either wiff a hit or get one hand on them for an easy 7 YAC and a first down. Spoon and Bobby are the only ones I consistently see tackling with form or using their weight/leverage to bring someone down. And Spoon is a 180 lb rookie yeesh.

  8. Fire Clint Hurt, hire Dan Quinn as the D coordinator and pen him in as Pete’s replacement when Pete is done.

  9. If the D was full of rookies and second year players, I would assume they could get better. But the front seven and safeties are mostly vets. Identify and release the most obviously blatant offenders. Some FA money has to be spent on this simple issue. And perhaps the position coaches need to be replaced.

  10. Honestly we have had tackle problems for a while. Some may have forgot that the Hawk Way to tackle was taught around the country because the LoB was so great at wrapping up at tackling. We havent tackled proper in practice since we got fined, had a pick and OTAs taken away

Granted it was years ago but it was when Richard was here and since this happened, there has been a lack of tackle practice

  11. If it were me deciding I would find guys who finish tackles and give them enough money to do it for us instead of for someone else.

  12. Fixing the problem requires doing multiple things.

    – Coaches should prob be replaced.

    – While coaches should prob be replaced, Seattle needs to improve the roster. Obv easier said than done, but you need players with higher floors that don’t take ages to develop. I know people want the new young QB and that’s def a need, but it’s not the only need.

**I looked into who’s missed the most tackles on the roster:**

    – Bobby being older isn’t the problem. His missed tackle % (4.5%) is the 2nd lowest of his career, and last year he missed only 1.4%. Bobby’s only missed 8 tackles this year. Devin’s missed 2.

    – Boye’s missed 3, Nwosu’s only missed 2. Taylor’s missed 5 and imo needs to improve- that’s 17.2% missed this year. His miss % has been high every year- 10.3 last year, 17.8% in 2021.

    – I thought maybe it’s Jamal missing tackles cuz he’s an idiot that always seems to injure himself from leading with his head, but even though his missed tackle % is quite high (15.8%), he’s only missed 9 tackles this year.

    – Jarran Reed and Tariq have the same thing as Bobby- Tariq’s missed 15.3% but only 9 missed tackles this year, Reed also missed 9.

    – Quandre’s the highest with 13 missed tackles. Spoon’s missed 12, Jordyn’s missed 11, Julian’s the 4th highest with 10 missed tackles. While Spoon’s been awesome and naturally will miss tackles as a CB, his 15% miss rate is kinda high. Unsurprisingly, it’s overinvestment in safety with subpar ROI that’s contributing most to the missed tackles.

    – At corner, Tre Brown’s missed 5, Artie’s missed 3, MJ’s missed 4

    – The DL averages only like 3 missed tackles each. Young, Dremont and Edwards missed 3 each, Williams missed 2. That’s a combined 11 on DL.

DL isn’t the problem. Taylor has a high miss % and that’s the biggest issue from the LBs, but it’s the secondary that’s causing most of these. It’s mainly the safeties.

  13. Can’t remember who said it, but on Brock & Salk (maybe KJ show) they said Devon Witherspoon is 180 lbs and the most violent player on the team. The rest of the D severely lacks physicality.
