Sox losing by 10 in the first. Is this a highlight from years ago or a preview of 2024?
Goddamn I miss Dave
And the Mariners having an offense
Also, Lofton was one of my favorite players growing up and I feel kinda bad for homedude having to just run to the fence over and over in that game lol
Rough day for the Sox pitching staff

Bo Jackson woulda made that catch.
Wasn’t his 5th AB a flyout to the warning track as well?
Imagine showing up 15 minutes late and seeing it’s already 10-0.
I believe 3 came off Jim Parque, so they don’t count.
The utter lack of expression on his face rounding the bases is so funny
Fuck I was in the bleachers for this game.
Dave Neihaus ALWAYS makes me happy
And then I had to see Ben fucking Davis’ square-and-totally-empty head.
Robert catches that.
Mike Cameron had 3 straight seasons of greater than 5 fwar for the Mariners. The only position player in baseball that put up at least 5 fwar in each of the last 3 seasons is Jose Ramirez. Hell of a player.
Okay, I was at this game.
Cameron’s 4 HR’s were crazy, but even more impressive – Bret Boone and Cameron both went for back to back HRs *twice* in the first inning.
You’re reading that right – they both hit 2 HRs B2B in the first inning.
I don’t know if that’s ever been done before or after.
Was just looking at the box score and noticed that Cameron was hit by a pitch in the next at-bat after he hit is fourth home run. Does anyone know if this was in retaliation to the home runs or just an accident?
He had 3 dongs through 3 innings, can’t believe he didn’t hit at least 6. Poor performance
And a few weeks later, Shawn Green also had a 4 HR game. Amazing to think there have only been six 4 HR games in the 21st century, and the first two happened to come in the same month.
I have his autograph from when he played for the Sox, but of course he’s better known for what he did to them

I always like to look for little things in the box score.
* Not only were the White Sox torched by their recent star CF Cameron, the M’s starter was James Baldwin who had recently been in the middle of the Sox rotation.
* John Olerud made a 3-6 double play in this game, which is a very John Olerude thing to do. That guy was super slick with the glove at 1B.
* Ruben Sierra played for the Mariners. I learned this today.
* As pointed out elsewhere in this thread, I was paying pretty close attention to the White Sox as a fan at this time and had no idea that a guy name Mike Porzio ever played Major League Baseball, let alone with the White Sox, let alone drilled a guy in a game who hit four dingers.
Cameron and Bret Boone went back-to-back TWICE in this game too haha
I watched this game live. Last time the M’s were any good. Over 20 years ago
Man I know this is an old highlight but I’m stunned the comments here aren’t more amazed. Mike Cameron was a solid big leaguer and had a .249 lifetime average with the most home runs he’s hit in a season at 30. To have a four hit game with four home runs is insane!
Happy 51st birthday Mike Cameron!
Off topic but they need to bring this game graphic back. Whatever you want to call the score, count, who’s on base thing.
I remember watching a different game and it cut to live to watch his 4th HR. And then cut to his final AB which IIRC was a deep fly out. Pretty cool.
I know others have done it, but when I think of 4 HRs I think of Mike Cameron.
It’s nice to see a video that acknowledges Kenny Lofton as a Chicago White Sox legend.

You can hear Niehaus reference Cammy and Bret Boone hitting back to back home runs twice in the first inning – you can see that here: https://www.mlb.com/video/back-to-back-twice-in-1st-c1685523983?partnerId=web_video-playback-page_video-share

Why do you do this to us, Clarice
Why do you hurt me
