  2. I would’ve been fine trading for Dubois, but not at the price the Kings paid to get him

  3. I’m very glad we didn’t make that trade or sign him. I don’t know how he got north of 8 million but he was a 7 mil guy at best to me

  4. Definitely, although I’m fairly certain he’ll find his game again. He’s always been a streaky player. Still, at the time there were people saying we should offer Suzuki + more for him which I thought was absolutely bonkers.

  5. I was never interested in the dude to begin with. He’s been an issue with his team since the beginning of his career

  6. Huge bullet dodged. Questionable work ethic and he isn’t flashy… we wouldn’t be getting much entertainment value from him. At like $6M I could see him being an important part of a good team.

  7. Hughes should have slammed the phone down when the Jets said they wanted Suzuki. That’s when I realized he wasn’t worth it.

  8. I was waiting for him to come to MTL as a UFA. Hopefully he would play better in his home province!

  9. I was glad we didn’t do it at the time and I’m even happier that we didn’t now.

  10. Yes, he is getting paid way too much for a dude that’s never scored 30 goals.

He’s a 25 goal scorer getting paid like a 40 goal scorer. I never understood why people wanted to overpay for him other than his name.

  11. Yes and I never wanted him to begin with. The price required to get him in a trade was far too steep considering we weren’t even a playoff team, let alone a cup contender.

I don’t think he’s as good as some of our fans seemed to believe, not a bad player by any means, but he’s not a superstar either. He’s also still a massive red flag in the character department as far as I’m concerned.

I know the fans would love a French Canadian star/superstar but we can’t just will it into existence either lol (whether that be acquiring one or just hoping the player is better than they actually are)

  12. I was very interested in him coming over as a UFA and signing him to the same Suzuki/CC deal. Trading for him was not very interesting because we were rebuilding so we’d be giving up younger cost controlled assets – that didn’t make sense.

He’s slumping on his first season with his 3rd team but put up numbers previously. No reason to believe he won’t get back into shape sooner or later.

Would I trade a 7th rounder for him today? Yes. Not more than that because we shouldn’t be in the business of bailing out other GMs.
