  1. Teams have to be worried about his medicals or something? He couldn’t do better than 2/30M?

  2. Bowden’s like, “it’s complicated and I don’t have much to tell you, but the important thing is I’m the first to not have all the details.”

  3. He is 30, and he’s only pitched more than 160 innings once in the last five years or something. Seems like a decent deal IMO.

  4. This is like a Jed Hoyer wet dream. A short contract with options to extend if things go well.

  5. Solid deal, Wrigley could be bad for his type of stuff. Maybe he will be similar to other four seam pitchers we’ve seen in recent years. . . I dont think anyone is expecting the next greg maddux. Hope he does well

  6. I’m not ashamed to admit that I still don’t know how to feel about this signing. But it does make the season more interesting, which I appreciate.

  7. This is a great signing. People will worry about everything before anything actually happens. I’ll make a prediction that his HR/9 will be fine. Hitters in MLB don’t prioritize contact, so they’ll be less likely (than NPB hitters) to accidentally hit HRs off of his exceptionally riding fastball. Worse contact will equal more pop outs or Ks. Cubs fans should understand this because Justin Steele is similar in this regard.

  8. I’m guessing he wanted an early opt out and some mlb teams didn’t want to pay him 15-20million for a year or two plus the fees for the contract (assuming mlb team still pays the total percentage of the whole contract even if a player opts out)

  9. I wonder if Hoyer is using this team to create trade capital or daft capital. It’s odd with this deal.

  10. Not holding my breath on this guy. We all know if this guy looked good at all the dodgers would have paid him twice as much and deferred it to pay out to his grandkids. We’ll see but I wouldn’t be surprised if this guy only starts a handful of games
