Adam Peters is the hot GM this year, everyone is talking about him, he’s the best GM on the planet. Well here’s what the data says about his draft classes. You’ll notice that all the media outlets selling you on him aren’t doing any critical analysis of his work, it appears that they like him because SF has a great roster and is winning. I’m not sure I totally disagree with that, but I do think the draft grades are important considering we want to build this team with the draft and have placed a heavy emphasis on getting draft capital.

Looking at the data it appears Peters had the better initial grades and Rivera had the better regrades. Depending upon how you look at it, either grade could be more relevant. I’m actually of the camp that the initial grade, biases excluded, is the more important grade, that said the initial grades won’t recognize unconventional wisdom.

I think with Peters the thing he has been credited the most with is the selections deeper down the board (ie Warner, Purdy, Hufanga) which we have struggled with since Kyle Smith departed.
Dream GM for me.
Riveras problem was both in roster construction, talent evaluation, and using those players to their strength. Those are all things that the 49ers do well, the key is to get the head coach, personnel person and GM on the same page to really have a strong roster.
I only looked at the regrade from pff for 2020, and the regrade was done in 2022.

Peters is also credited with getting Trent Williams and CMC via trade. The problem with Rivera was how much he reached. When he drafted Jamin Davis, Darrisaw was on the board. He is one of the youngest and most talented LTs in the game. We reached on Jahan who really looks mediocre and undersized out there. We reached on Forbes when we could’ve had guys like Gonzalez and Porter at our pick. The one big disaster in Peters time with SF is the Trey Lance debacle. But I read that it was John Lynch who made that decision.

These grades and regrades are awful though.
You’re going to be able to poke holes in every single candidate. It’s a gambling business, everyone will have red ink on their resume. You have to judge them by their process and the overall body of work, and are they the type of person to learn from their mistakes or double down.
That’s why I will have no opinion on whoever we hire. We can look at the body of work, but we don’t know how these people go about their business and how they contributed. That’s what interviews and a search team are for.

PFF draft grades mean less than nothing. The fact they have an A for the 2020 draft proves they are clueless
Rivera’s 2020 draft is not an A- in the slightest lmao, that class stunk outside of Curl. The 49ers got Aiyuk and McKivtitz who are core pieces for them, plus swung a trade for Williams.
bad data makes for bad posts. in the Rivera era, we have not gained any blue chip players. Any. We have Terry, but that’s a Bruce Allen era pick. That’s it.
