GM: Bears ‘open-minded’ about top overall pick

  1. I love how this is news. I feel like we could have written what he was going to say before hand and it would have come out similar to what he said.

  2. Trade it, get MHJ + picks. Give Fields another year and if it doesn’t work then take a QB next year with your 2 1st rounders. Caleb Williams has a 39.1 PFF grade against pressure this year. Do we really want to throw him into the same pit we threw Fields into?

  3. So far I have been right about 2 things – Keeping Flus and canning Getsy.

I also believe they will keep fields and take the trade haul for trading back….let’s see if I’m 3 for 3….

  4. Do you think in the interview process that Poles and Flus would cater to the OC in terms of what QB he wants?

Let’s say they want Waldron, but only if Fields stays because he knows how to fix him. Would that have any influence or are they waiting for someone to say they will only come aboard if it’s Caleb?

Either way, Poles has alot of tough decisions to make and i’m glad i’m not in his shoes. I’m more than happy working as a paper pusher lol

  5. I just don’t understand why people debate it or not.

Fields is a goner. 11-29 after 3 years, already passed up on QB’s last year and Stroud was immediately better than JF.

No way Poles and Flus gamble their jobs on a QB they didn’t draft and pass up a prospect as big as Caleb with back to back first picks.

Fields will be traded by March 🤷🏻‍♂️

  6. Of course they are. Got to maintain leverage with the #1 pick to maximize the biggest return as possible should they trade down. No benefit in announcing thier direction at QB so soon.

  7. I’d rather just keep Fields and take the picks even though I don’t think he’s very good rather than go through the whole rigmarole of completely ruining another kid. Justin’s mental toughness is the only thing keeping him from shooting Halas Hall up.

  8. since we’re sticking with flus, i desperately hope we trade the pick. i don’t care if we delay our rebuild by a year or two, i just wanna break this stupid cycle of ruining rookie qb’s by changing staff their second year

  9. yeah? well I’m open minded about continuing to watch this team

(that’s a lie, I’m absolutely going to fall back into the sand trap next season)

  10. They’re just saying this. They’ve already got their mind made up and will take williams. But theyll fuck it up by pairing him with jim caldwell

  11. I think it will make more sense to keep fields. If we draft a qb and then fire Eberflus after next season then we will be repeating the past and putting a fresh qb into new leadership after their first year again.

However, if we build around fields this season in the draft by trading down, we can strengthen the roster substantially (hopefully get suitable help on the offensive line as well as draft mhj). If fields improves then great! But if it all goes downhill we can bring in a new head coach and let him bring in the qb he wants who will be coming in to a new regime rather than dealing with uncertainty in their first year. Also by this point the roster around them would hopefully be a lot stronger from this years draft, as well as having an extra 1st round pick from trading down.

  12. It’s not that keeping Eberflus was dumb because Eberflus is the worst coach we’ve had since Trestman. It’s dumb because there are extremely successful coaches out there to go after.

You can debate Fields vs Rookie QB all day. I’m telling you that a young QB needs the right offensive guru to fully realize their talents and skill set and not be coached by a mild mannered dickless defensive-oriented McCaskey yes-man.

I’m not gonna lie and say that all of Poles roster moves have been bad. His “free agent signings” have been bad. They’ve been nonexistent. His drafts have been above average for certain positions. Taking Darnell Wright wasn’t some big brain move, it was obvious and Poles shouldn’t be praised like he found some diamond in the rough.

The point is, whatever Harbaugh or Belicheck wants, Chicago needs to give. GM/Executive role, whatever. Continuing this madness of rotating new HC-QB every 3 years is exhausting and very insulting as a fan.

The Chicago Bears want you to root against them and that’s so fucked up

  13. They’re gonna keep Justin and pick up his 5 year option. Then they’re going to replace him and Flus when their contracts are up and they’re moving into a new stadium.

  14. I’m glad they’re not saying much. It would be crazy if they didn’t take Williams. What would be even better is trading fields for Atlantas first round pick

  15. Lets say we trade the pick, keep Fields and get all those new weapons and he STILL doesn’t work out. Then what? Bench him mid season and use our back up? His stock tanks. Season wasted. In the same breath say Caleb/Maye go to another team, balls out their mind.. everyone would be crying why we kept Fields. Then look for more QB rookie talent next year(not much) or trade a boat load of assets for a starting QB that’s available next year. This discussion is always a lose-lose. Just wait to see what happens.

Personally, I’d take Caleb/Maye. Even if either doesn’t go crazy 1st season atleast we got them on rookie deals and can let them settle in to see their potential. Trading back to back #1’s to then keep a 11-29, throws for 300 1 time in his NFL career JF is just mind blowing, to me atleast. Either way 🐻⬇️

  16. I’m already seeing people on the Falcons sub willing to trade 3 firsts and Pitts for it.

Shit guys, this haul may be massive.

If it is traded I’d like Poles to test his luck and pick the team that he thinks would finish bottom 5 next year, allowing us to spin the qb wheel every year if they decide to move on from Fields.

  17. this is like every slacker kid saying “i dont have a major yet because i’m open minded”.

  18. Interviewer: “Here is a $10 bill in my left hand and $100 in my right. In 30 seconds I will let you select either one. Which will you choose?”

Poles: “We’re keeping an open mind, going to take a careful look at all options on the table and do what’s best for the organization.”

  19. This is how the draft is going to play out.

The Commanders are going to offer 3 picks for the #1 pick:

    2nd overall in 2024

    2nd round pick 2024

    1st round 2025

Commanders draft Caleb Williams, Bears get Marvin Harrison Jr.

  20. This is the easiest fucking decision in the world. Everything Fields struggled with in college, he still struggles with in year 3. He ain’t him. He’s just a guy with one 300-yard game and a couple flashy runs.

  21. Regardless of what they intend to do, this is the correct thing to say. Wait for offers, try to maximize the value of your assets.

Plus, regardless of what they intend to do, a truly surprising offer could change that. There is no sense publicly committing to a specific path if you might be swayed to change.
