[Amick] The Kings had no optimism in their ability to re-sign Pascal Siakam because, according to league sources, Siakam did not view the Kings as a long term fit for himself which is why the Kings were reluctant to include Keegan Murray. The Pacers are currently viewed as the “leaders” for Siakam.

> Considering the Kings were known to be in serious talks with the Raptors about Siakam as recently as Friday, when they ended the talks, this is extremely relevant to the Sacramento calculus at hand. Here are the Kings, winning enough games to earn a fifth-place standing in the Western Conference but routinely losing in the kind of one-sided fashion that raises serious questions about their legitimacy as contenders, and they’re contemplating the notion of trading for a high-level player who is headed toward free agency this summer as a possible solution. To put it in proper pro sports parlance, it would be a rental. According to two league sources, the Kings should have very little — if any — optimism regarding the prospect of Siakam re-signing in the summer if they were to land him. With that in mind, it should surprise no one that the Kings are unwilling to include second-year forward Keegan Murray in a deal (who, by the way, had 32 points while hitting 13 of 17 shots and 5 of 9 3s in a win against Detroit on Tuesday night).

> It remains possible that the Raptors and Siakam will agree on an extension, especially if the trade market is underwhelming enough that Toronto’s president, Masai Ujiri, decides to hold onto him past the deadline. But either way, Siakam is seeking a full-term, max-salary deal no matter where he ultimately lands. And while Siakam has not asked for a trade, the sources say he doesn’t view the Kings as a good long-term fit if the Raptors choose to move him.

> Whether it’s the Kings or any other team that is taking a serious look at Siakam — the Indiana Pacers are seen by some rival executives as the leaders in this pack — the factors in play are somewhat similar to those that led to Toronto’s trade with San Antonio for Leonard in the summer of 2018. There will be no promises made about his free agency future for any team, with the pursuing organization needing to roll the dice and hope for the kind of best-case scenario that unfolded when the Raptors won it all during their one season with Leonard in 2019. It’s a gamble, to be sure, one that the Kings and perhaps others are thinking twice about making. And with good reason.

  1. We are in no position to be “gambling” lol especially if it means giving up our young talent

  2. he would be a great fit but i’m not sure i’m interested in giving up assets that are playing well for a half month rental, i think we can stay afloat with this current roster until hali is back.

there’s no need to mess up the rebuild/chemistry right now, we should do what the magic and thunder are doing and not rush things.

  3. At the end of the day, he’s an All-NBA caliber talent at our biggest position of need with a game that shouldn’t fall off drastically in the next few seasons.

It’s certainly not my favorite move, but I trust KP to make this team better and be reluctant to give up players like Mathurin. After all, history shows our free agency dollars are probably going to guys like Bruce Brown or Bojan Bogdavonic otherwise.

  4. Our guys just beat the strongest team in the NBA without Tyrese. I think they are worth developing.

And why would Siakam re sign in Indiana if he wouldn’t in Sacramento?

  5. Ugh. I don’t really want to be the team to give him 40M+ a year, plus it really depends on what Masai is asking for

  6. If we could send Buddy, Jarace, I-jax and a couple picks, AND if Siakim gives us a verbal agreement to re-sign, I’d do it.

I know everyone is high on Jarace, but he’s probably 2+ years from being a starting level player for a contender, and Siakim makes us a contender in the east right away.

    Tyrese Brown Nesmith Siakim Turner

    TJ Nembhard Mathurin Obi Smith

Tell me that isn’t one of the best rosters top to bottom in the NBA. Maybe I’m delusional but idk man, idk.

Siakim would be in his prime for the first ~3 years of the deal.

  7. SiakAm, I don’t understand why Siakim is so in vogue as a misspelling.

Anyway, the simple fact is that our line-up with Tyrese, Nembhard/BB, Nesmith/Smith/Turner is very successful at marrying defensive presence with offense. Now replace arguably the weakest link on that line-up with Siakam, who also brings size, rebounding and spot up shooting AND playmaking and anybody who says no (provided he re-signs, there’s no way our FO pull the trigger if he doesn’t!) is delusional.

The challenge is simple: how cheap could we get him? And that is where things become tricky. TJ, Buddy, Walker certainly gets accepted, but do we want to give up on Nembhard and Walker?

My heart says no, but my rational head isn’t that sure.

  8. Quick reminder that getting a verbal commitment from a player you trade for before trading for him is considered tampering due to the NBA rules. Getting caught tampering can cost a team up to $10 mil. There is no way in hell the Simons want to pay that. So, if your solution for a possible Siakam trade is to just get him to say he’ll re-sign, I don’t think that’s viable.

  9. Giving up the #8 pick in the draft for the honor of paying 30year old siakam 200mil…..HOW ABOUT nooo

  10. I haven’t watched Siakam much, but is he really worth a max? Guy is in his 30s and he’s never struck me as an overwhelmingly net positive player….I’d be really scared to give up any of our youth for him, even if he’s coming back.

  11. This would set the franchise back several years if they give up young, cheap contracts for a 30 year old PF.

  12. I can’t see giving up Walker plus either Nembhard or Mathurin plus Buddy or Turner for a possible rental

Just sign him if you want him.

  13. Hopefully whatever is leaked rarely happens and there is some unexpected team out of the left field who trades for him

  14. I guess I could handle Walker + a pick or two but I’m not really enthusiastic about him.

Mathurin will be better than him in 2 years at probably half the cost. No way do I try him for siakam.

  15. Sorry I don’t care. Our team is gelling. We have no locker room drama, we are playing at a competitive level with some players getting better with each game/more minutes. We should stay the course. Maybe some g-league for picks but I don’t care or want a trade

  16. Makes me wonder how much value he has at this point. If he’s not interested in the kings then why would he be interested in resigning with the hawks or pacers? He must have pretty limited value at this point.

  17. I have no doubts that we are looking into him but the national media has been wrong time and time again about the Pacers front office and their moves. KP has been basically beyond reproach at this point when it comes to his recent trade history, so I don’t have too many worries that he will sell the farm for a rental.

  18. Just keep going with the rebuild. If they are high on Walker and don’t want to trade him than why go out and get Siakam who would take all of his playing time away in the future? I just have no interest in a max contract guy who shoots 30% from 3 and hasn’t been able to lead the raptors to any success since Kawhi left.

  19. If Siakam can just choose what team he goes to after this year, why would we not just wait to see if he chooses us?

  20. Nobody every wants to give anything up but look how well the Knicks are suddenly doing with OG

  21. I really don’t want him especially if it means trading any young players or picks, he’s extremely overrated and he might be a negative asset if he even resigns

  22. Given this information, Toronto can have 2 seconds, Nwora, and Bruce Brown.

Absolutely no value in trading for siakam. Even if siakam resigned, now we’re paying a guy 5 years for 3 years of peak performance, Max, and as little as 1 year peak performance.

Either way, if pacers don’t jump to the top of the league and compete for a ship, it’s a bad trade.

Pacers are developing really well, let’s just stand Pat and see how’s it goes.

  23. This Siakam nonsense is all smoke. If we trade young talent and assets it’s gonna be for someone who is still in their prime.

  24. Pacers always play these trade the best. Just wait because there’s no reason to bid against yourselves.
