49ers Notebook: A peek at practice; Chase Young’s time to step up; Brandon Aiyuk speaks (briefly) on contract status; Kyle Shanahan now an elder statesman

Great stuff in these locker room interviews. Especially about how Kyle coaches and has evolved

  1. Chase Young has been great, but I agree that now is the time for him to step up. Hargrave and Armstead overpower the middle, Bosa and Young around the edges, but getting to the QB as fast as possible. We need it every play.

  2. This playoff run, good or bad, is going to have major ripple effects on this team for years to come. Lots of interesting contract positions, roomy but not unlimited cap space, and constant coaching/front office changes bc we get poached.

I know this time ready to rise to the occasion, I think it’s been clear all year.

  3. i know we have a chance to win it all this year but my heart is telling me last year was our year and after this year our chances will only start going down 🙁

  4. I feel like they’ve been minding Chase’s snaps for the playoffs. This week is the only bye he’s had all season. I expect them to unleash him and Bosa in the Divisional.

God help that opposing O Line.

  5. I truly believe some teams like ours, who’ve been so close to winning it all and came into the season stacked yet again, struggle to find regular season consistency. Shanahan did an admirable job ensuring we didn’t come out flat or play below our potential often enough to blow the 1 seed and bye week.

But it’s a real thing I’ve seen in other sports too: a team built for the postseason, hungry, battle-tested, who simply cannot get up for all 17 regular season games. Any given Sunday really applies.

Now it’s the postseason. They’ve been waiting for this since that awful January day in Philly when Purdy was injured. They know what it takes to win at this level – they’ve done it 3 of the last 4 seasons.

I really believe this team is gonna come out ready to wreck opponents. Dialed in. Focused. Pissed. They know this year is their best shot to put it all together.

Particularly given our huge upgrade at QB.

  6. My only critique of Young is to hold his lane if playing against a running QB like Lamar. A couple of big plays Jackson made is when Young rushed up to try to get a sack and was pushed on by. Jackson slid to that side and made a few passes and a long run. A delayed blitz by one of our LBs is necessary as well. Can’t let a running QB time to find a receiver or run.

  7. I wouldn’t want to play us on 3 weeks rest. IMO our two biggest issues this year we’re being beat up and complacent after long winning streaks. I joked 5-3, 5-3, 5-0 but they threw me off with the 6 game streak after the bye.
