  1. This at least gives some perspective that hiring Mayo is the furthest thing from a kneejerk reaction. We knew from going back 2 years ago there was interest in Mayo as a potential HC and the Patriots wanted to keep him, but knowing they already had plans for him to take over in 2025 at least can create some assurance that they are still following their plan.

Now, whether it was right to just follow the plan or to take a deep breath and check out the FA coaching landscape before committing … that’s another question lol

  2. Interesting, makes sense that it felt like an easy discussion with Belichick and not in any way a bitter parting of ways.

Fuck it, I’m hyped for the Mayo era. You can’t deny he’s been a fantastic coach in his role up to this point

  3. Umm when the pats again finish with a losing record and more The fans are going to call for his head watch

  4. Interesting.

It makes sense. If you were moving on next season anyway, might as well give the HC you were gonna have his choice at no.3 this season.

  5. This contract term would make sense why both sides could have wanted to mutually move on. Bill knew that he wouldn’t hit his wins needed next season if he stayed and Kraft wanted to rebuild to get back towards winning. Probably figured if Bill could get to the cowboys/eagles he could get 10+ wins next season or with the falcons in a weak division provided they found a qb. Makes sense on both sides

  6. It’s just not that exciting of a hire. I’m certain he has a few better attributes than Bill, however, is he really a better coach?

When I was a teenager I would of loved this hire

  7. Tommy Curran is a hack.

Remember he said Brady was leaving? 😂

Then he said Belichick was out? 😂

Curran has no sources, and just makes shit up for clicks.

    How do I know?

The Patsnowflakes told me so. ❄️

  8. Basically my thoughts when the news of Bill being out was starting to be confirmed. If it wasn’t this year, it would probably be the next. I don’t think Bill (unless they continued some success) was going to stay past the contact he signed. Meaning that this is far less a knee-jerk reaction and one that was sort of planned ahead. Just happy everyone involved seems to be happy too and it’s not some drama.

  9. It’s always a bad sign when teams have someone lined up to take over. You’re mainly just firing Bill the GM and then getting a significantly worse coach, but now you have to bring in a GM that probably would’ve never hired Mayo as the coach in the first place.

  10. The biggest talking point around nfl coaching was how it was all the “good old boys club” and it’s all the same old guys failing and getting new jobs undeserved, and younger coaches esp men of color can’t break through easily.

So we identified a home grown star player who had leadership talent and mentored him up to to be the youngest Hc in the league. I’m here for it.

  11. What I don’t understand is what is Mayo going to do different besides attempt to imitate Bill?

The transfer makes sense in the context of things going well, steady hand etc. I just don’t know understand what Mayo couldn’t contribute before as a coach that he can now do as HC?

    Maybe I’m missing something?

  12. More and more i hear about this sounds like johnathon and mr Kraft got to involved and things started to go off the rails compounded by a few bad drafts.

Hopefully bill finds success in the league and the owners can stop meddling with the pats and we can get back to our winning ways

  13. It was pretty clear this was the situation, especially after Bill’s contract details came to light. The plan was fine before and I understand why they accelerated it. All 3 knew the situation going in and all 3 knew what was coming by mid-season, maybe the Germany game. But it was disgraceful the way Kraft handled it. These “leaks” to tarnish BB on his way out, acting like the good guy for not trading bill when he really had no leverage, criticizing BB’s GM powers, etc. BB was always the bad guy during his time here. Just man up and admit you nixed any Brady trade and BB’s attempt at a succession plan. Your collaborative draft pick in Mac failed. Your OC fix in BoB failed. Just be direct with fans and say this was the succession plan just being accelerated.

  14. Getting a real GM is the real obstacle. I hope we can establish something resembling a real NFL coaching staff. You know, competent coaches with OC and DC. Imagine that. And just maybe acquire actual offensive talent. Unlike a lot of people today, I’m willing to give Mayo the benefit of the doubt. He’s a smart kid. Who’s to say he can’t be Belichick 2.0. After all, if we’ve learned anything about this team and league in the last decade, it’s all about the quarterback anyway.

  15. The most shocking part of all this to me is he’s only 37. I don’t know why I thought he was older.
