New York Yankees Ink Multi-Year Deal With Marcus Stroman. What’s Next?

The Yankees and Stroman agree on a multi-year, $37M deal.

There are still plenty of questions surrounding the roster construction though. This article dives in to what the next moves could be, if there are any.

  1. With Stroman’s salary, their estimated payroll is right around the 297 mark.

I doubt Hal is going to surpass it for a bullpen piece or two. I think they either make one more big move and blow past it or this is gonna be the roster.

  2. More likely they add Hicks and are done. Hader wants more then I think they want to spend on a reliever.

  3. My guess is a RP like Hicks then they wait.

They clearly don’t want to spend 30mil+ on Monty or Snell (and rightfully so).

So the next option is either a) potentially overpay in a trade now for one of the bigger names (Cease, Bieber, etc)/ see if a lesser name that’s in the last year of a deal or arbitration is available or b) wait for deadline.

  4. If they want to get Hicks and be done with larger signings sure I am ok with that. What I think they’ve missed out on doing is signing guys to affordable contracts who didn’t get the attention in FA that they thought they would get. They did that with DJ in 2019. There should be back of the rotation arms / middle inning relievers / bench quality bats that you can get for cheap that are upgrades over what we have now. 8-12 million dollar 1 year contracts are pennies for the Yankees. Fuck your “budget” and add MLB quality depth to round out the roster and make it even deeper. Especially on the pitching front given how questionable things are.

  5. Shame reports are saying that Guardians will probably keep Bieber for now. Smart move on their part since it would be a shame to sell low. Seems like all the proposed pitchers (like Burnes & Cease) are in the same situation of probably starting the year on their current teams. While I agree another SP is needed. I also think they need a 1B/3B depth piece that would be better than Cabrera and Peraza would benefit them. Someone like JD Davis. But I suppose its best to start the season as is and then make trades as the weak points become exposed.

  6. With the Giants signing Hicks to be a starter. I guess Snell really is gonna get stuck in Anaheim
