According to Greg Gabriel that mysterious fourth person that the Bears are interviewing was Greg Olson. I found this random response on Twitter.

P.S. I believe he is talking about the QB coach in Seattle not the former TE.

  1. Greg Gabriel’s complete inability to go 3 seconds without being abrasive and insulting towards SOMEONE is almost admirable

  2. Shane Waldron is so clearly the most qualified. I’ll be bummed if we go with the nepo baby (Kubiak), well-traveled journeyman who has already been on a bad Bears offensive staff (Olson) or the most Getsy-like guy who has coordinated for one year in the NFL, just about the only year the Rams offense wasn’t awesome (Coen.)

  3. Can NFL teams interview coaching candidates in secret? I thought there were rules around this.

  4. I find it funny how Parkins tweeted that it was Olson 8 hours before greg brought up this “secret candidate.” There never was a secret 4th candidate when the name was shared publicly long before he was described as an unnamed candidate

  5. Pete Carroll was fired. We interviewed Waldron. Why the hell is interviewing Olson some big cloak and dagger operation?

  6. Greg Olson with the opportunity to do the same thing with Eberflus as he did with the Bears and Dick Jauron in 2003! 🙂

  7. I understand Olson was/is interviewing for the OC spot according to reports, but I wonder if this is actually a positive sign for Waldron. I’d imagine Shane would bring a decent amount of his staff from Seattle with him, including Olson as his QB coach again. Maybe this is a way for the Bears to get a deeper look into this potential staff, getting to know the guy who will be closely working with their QBs.

I might be totally wrong, but it’s just a theory!

  8. My guess is that Waldron might be the first choice but if he gets a different offer Olson would be a good fallback. Gabriel did say that the candidate wanted it quiet for now. The only reason I can think of in this case was so not to have the appearance of trying to take away a job from Waldron in case he wanted to stay on his staff.

Olson would be a good OC candidate but a better QB coach candidate. Tons of experience and he and Waldron have worked well together. Getting both of them would be a home run hire for the Bears.
