Grading the Broncos’ coach and culture in the 2023 season

  1. I feel like this year has a lot more accountability on the players in part since Payton started.

  2. My grading:

    Sean Payton: A-

**Though the season didn’t start off great Payton was able to turn it around and break losing streaks with teams like the Chiefs and Bills. However, at the end he kinda lost it with losing to teams like the Texans and Patriots.**

    Joe Lombardi: B

**Similar to Payton Lombardi would perform horribly in the beginning of the year but picked it up in the middle. However, I feel that the Offense really struggled when we shouldn’t have against teams like the Jets and the Raiders.**

    Vance Joseph: C-

**The defense picked it up in the end but really lost it near the end. They did well in the first quarter but then in the 2nd half of the game they’d throw the game. Also he allowed 70 points to the Dolphins. Out of all the coaches who should be fired Vance Joseph should be first of the list.**

  3. Overall fairly poor. C at a collective

HC seemed much more competent than the past 7 years, but thats not really saying much. So far nothing to show why we traded premium picks for a position that normally costs none. C+

OC, a bit better this year especially just looking at points scored, Russ obviously improved, ppg drastically increased (but again not saying much as ours was horrendous last year). The line was definitely the biggest improvement, however it was also where we threw all of our current and future money at. Miscues, injuries, WRs struggling to get open, Russ not being able to see the open man. C+

DC, the biggest mixed bag, obviously some disasters, especially in run defense. Defensive line was horrendous at generating pressure which absolutely dismantled any hopes of good coverage. Blitzes were creative, but felt exotic just to be able to pressure the QB. There were times where it felt like we could create a turnover at any second on defense or we would give up a touchdown at any moment. C-

ST, the biggest leap IMO, it was frankly as good as you can ask of a unit. Disciplined players, great kick coverages and some decent returns throughout the year. By far the biggest improvement on the team. A

  4. Sean Payton sucks. I have no idea why everyone sucks his dick. He has 1 SB win. He is old and washed and the game has moved past his old ass. He is not saving this franchise. Rinse, hire someone like Dan Campbell or hire a young brainiac like Matt Lefluer, Sean McVay, Mike McDaniel, etc. + we need a new qb.

Also random thought our decision makers have beenabsolutely stupid since SB50: not sure why no one was looking at Josh Allen harder back in the day, he’s literally Elway but modern and better. He was less than 300 miles away and always putting a whooping on the Rams

  5. For a team that’s pretty much been an F- on coaching for years I’ll take what I feel like was a barely above average job by Payton this year. I haven’t felt this good about a coach since the first time Vance Joseph talked about our great week of practice pretty much, much less felt this good about one at the end of a season.

He was far from perfect, but I definitely think he was the best hire we could have made.
