Jim Harbaugh remains engaged in contract talks with Michigan amid NFL swirl

I know it’s a business and he’s just negotiating, but the depth of the negotiations here don’t seem great for his chances of leaving Michigan.

  1. Not much concern here, this was obviously never going to be a “handshake and it’s over” type deal. There’s a million moving pieces.

I’m just hopeful that Michigan somehow doesn’t have the authority to grant Harbaugh immunity. That seems like the ultimate deciding factor on whether he returns or not.

What did Michigan offer anyway, 10 years for 125 million? 12.5M/APY, still more than we’ve ever seen in Spanos pay a coach. Plus, he’s probably going to have to increase that APY to incentivize.

I can live with Harbaugh deciding to return to Michigan for a perfect deal. I absolutely cannot live with these fucking Spanos idiots blowing our chances at the best HC candidate we’ve ever been presented with. I don’t know how, but I swear to God I will move on from this team if we fumble Harbaugh, Vrabel, Carroll, or Bill and end up with a Dan Quinn or Raheem Morris.

  2. He’s asking quite a bit from both the Chargers and Michigan.

From Michigan he wants assurances that if the NCAA worst case scenario happens and he gets hit with a show cause penalty (unable to continue to be the coach for Michigan), he won’t be fired for cause and he’ll get the full contract amount, or a large bulk of it.

From the Chargers he wants a boatload of money, lots of control, and his pick of a GM.

The Chargers are more likely to meet those asks than Michigan will, but you never know.

  3. I really don’t think a return to Michigan is likely. It’s a bad time to be a college coach, even without all the shit the NCAA is throwing at him. Biggest thing that worries me is Spanos not opening the checkbook.

  4. Some of you guys never leveraged multiple interviews for a better salary (and opportunity) and it shows!

  5. I’m not sure why anyone would expect him not to be seriously negotiating with Michigan? He’s keeping his options open.

  6. I wouldn’t expect their negotiations to be over until he signs the dotted line for a team

  7. Maybe I should put some money on Harbaugh to return to Michigan to lessen the disappointment when he stays.

  8. The most interesting note here for the chargers is at the end: “Talks may continue into Tuesday per league sources.”

So the Chargers may STILL be talking to Jim after Monday’s interview. Interesting!

  9. This is going to be the longest week ever.
Chargers Reddit and social media is going to burn to the ground when we find out what he’s doing next year – either out of happiness or anger.

  10. Everyone is so hyper focused on Harbaugh, dont forget there are other great options out there right now.

  11. But the chargers posted a video on the five reasons someone else should try hire JH. Makes me think it’s a done deal. No one else got a video on what makes them a good candidate. Don’t get mad at me. Just ignore me 😅

  12. Sanctions, and multiple seniors leaving, he’s just negotiating in good faith. I think there’s no way he returns.
