Most interesting thing here is that they were in on Yamamoto and supposedly did try and get him. I know it’s empty words and who knows what the chances were of them signing him, but the outlook of everything would have been so different if they had signed him.

Improve the team to them does not mean more wins, it means getting to that 78 wins more efficiently. Tricking the fan base into thinking you’re competitive into August (and based on some of the fans on this sub, oh boy did they trick you) and turning Fenway into a tourist attraction for visiting fans is enough to keep the machine going. That 75-79 win mark is right where they need to be and they’re gonna keep checking to see how cheap they can do that.

I think the messaging has been poor and the criticism has been valid. That being said this team on paper is still mid and I’m not looking for them to sign players to bad deals or lose picks for a Montgomery caliber player who I also don’t think is that great.
I’m excited for this team and what is coming through the talent pipeline that is the minors over the next few years.
