Did you guys see Rivera’s comments on Howell today? I’m not completely sure if Ron handling Howell’s starting role differently really would have changed anything.

  1. I think that’s just Ron being nice.

Sam had a chance to show what he could do over the course of a full season. Obviously the supporting cast wasn’t great, but he was given an opportunity.

That’s what every player wants: To show what they’re capable of.

  2. So you did that with haskins. And you did that again with Sam Howell?
    1. He did not learn
    2. Keeps making excuses….

  3. Ron giving Howell a shot was fine. EB’s asinine and paradoxical approach is what fucked him.

  4. I’m tired of Ron. Seems like a good man, but it’s all tiresome.

He wanted Sam to start, and he wanted a more balanced offense at the end of last season… so naturally he hires a guy allergic to running the ball, gives him total control of the offense, and Del rio control of the defense. Leaving himself as manager in chief despite it being something he’s not great at. Then… he continued to let Sam be in an incredibly high pressure situation getting walloped game after game, and highlighting Sam every chance he got in pressers. Now, that none of it worked, he say’s “oops, my Bad”.

The lack of foresight to issues and commitment to his plans looks cartoonish in hindsight. please stop.

  5. He took a big gamble, a foolish gamble. The rest of the team was built to his vision, Jacoby was always better than Sam, and instead of letting Howell learn under an actual vet and get him some time if Jacoby started stinking it up, he made the worst possible decision and put Howell in to start the season. Once that choice was made, there was no realistic option to go to Jacoby because it would be admitting Howell was a failure.

And, for me, the icing on the cake is that RON decided who should be the QB in the first freaking place. That should have been 100% EB’s call with 0 input from Ron. EB was the Assistant HC and OC, who gets the start should have been coming from him. All references to ‘who’s going to be the QB this year’ should have been deferred to EB.

  6. I feel like he is taking blame away from EB. Sam was getting killed for weeks behind that O line, and neither of them changed anything.

I think Ron gave too much power to EB, and didn’t stop him when he went overboard on passing.

  7. Let’s be real. With the number of sacks Howell took, it’s amazing that he didn’t get injured like all of the other starting QBs we’ve had in recent history. You don’t have to worry about whether or not to bench your starter when they are too injured to play.

  8. I mean that line let a lot of people through… seemed like after week 6 there was some sort of clashing going on with the play calling. Seemed like the locker room was lost.

  9. Don’t care a whole lot what Ron says anymore. I guess it helps wrap up the season, but I personally don’t care.

  10. Can we just stop with Ron. All he does is put his foot in his mouth. He’s a an awful coach

  11. Ron didn’t learn shit tbh, what they did to Howell is the same thing they did to Wentz. They put these qbs behind an oline that couldn’t hold up and constantly threw the ball,Wentz got injured and Sam somehow made it out alive.Even with them trying to protect Heinicke he was getting hit alot and started to fumble but Ron didn’t fix the line leaving guys in who weren’t playing good but benching others.

  12. Honestly I don’t even blame Ron for Sam’s struggles imo it’s essentially all on bienemy yes the line was bad receivers dropped some balls and he made some bad reads but you can say that about essentially every young qb difference is they don’t throw it 40 times a game with zero quick passes and everything deep
