Another 3 mil for Jeanie to invest in womens wrestling
Lakers were the 6th highest payroll that year and in the off-season they needed to re-sign Bynum and Ariza (which became Ron instead). We had the highest payroll the year after. Mihm also retired after he got traded.
Cheap ass team tho.
Chris Mihm was washed tho.
He looked like he was going to be an ok player but injuries really derailed him and he never got back on track.
By the time this trade happened he was hardly playing.

A lot of people in this sub would benefit from looking up the new CBA, namely how it affects a team’s ability to sign, retain, and trade for players. Weirdly and intentionally, they have to get out of the tax to go into the tax later for greater flexibility.
Also, the owners agreed to this even more punitive CBA to restrict their own spending.
It’s crazy to me that a statement of “the Lakers have been in the luxury tax for 4/5 years” is spun into: cheap mfers lol
Especially because what they’re hinting at is possibly getting better *and* getting under the salary cap just to get rid of the repeater tax. Btw teams like Toronto and Indy manipulated smartly around the cap in similar ways and were applauded for it.

Chris mihm looked good for us until he sprained his ankle and it apparently never healed. He was young but his injuries really didn’t allow him to play, getting rid of him was most likely a good idea
As others have said, Mihm was completely washed up by this point and offered no value to the team. He wasn’t going to contribute in the playoffs, and it saved the team money. I would equate this to, say, trading Jaxson Hayes to a team with cap space, and then following it up by signing another big to a smaller prorated deal. It would save the team money on the luxury tax bill and have no real significance in terms of team performance… if anything, it might improve us. But the team isn’t going to go out and deal their biggest potential trade chips (ie Reaves, Russell, Hachimura, Prince, Christie, Vincent) just to save money. Sure, cutting the tax bill would be a nice secondary bonus for those types of deals.. but they are definitely looking to improve the team above anything else at this point.
