[PitchProfiler] Matt Waldron is keeping knuckleball alive by being the only pitcher to consistently throw one in 2023. It’s a pretty nasty one too coming in at 146 Stuff+, making it the third best offspeed pitch of 2023!

  1. I hope he performs well in ST to claim SP5, he looked good towards the end of the season and had a full offseason to hopefully get some help from the school of Niebla.

So far I see the rotation being 1. Joe 2. Yu 3. King 4. (Trade/FA) 5. Waldron 6. Avila/Brito/Irirate. Not a Top 10 rotation by any means but not bottom feeding either

  2. I’m bullish on Waldron, all the dude did was continue to improve the more he pitched. He’s also a guy that has actually pitched a bunch of innings and can actually give us 140+ innings this season.

Is he going to be an Ace? No. Can he be a reliable backend starter and keep the team in games? Hopefully that’s a yes.

That knuckler just kept getting better the more he threw it. Niebla wasn’t wrong in asking him to throw it at a higher rate. He still likely needs to throw it even more. There’s no other knucklers in the league, just throw that shit. He has to go RA Dickey style and be throwing it 70% of the time.

  3. Wouldn’t mind him at our 5th starter or even bullpen , that being the knuckle ball isn’t common in today baseball

  4. Dear lord that thing is filthy. Imagine if Waldron, four years later, makes that stupid Mike Clevinger trade look a whole lot better from our end.

  5. Not a fan of any real innings, but good to have as a 7th-8th starter to fill in for 60-80 innings as injuries come. Anything better than WEATHERS

  6. I miss guys like R A Dickey. Guy had no ligament in his throwing elbow and dominated tossing knuckleballs. Crazy!
