I mean… I guess if my wife instigated something I would be pissed about that, and I would sure as hell not wear as as a badge of honor that “It’s nice knowing my wife could pull pro athletes”
Who cares… if this dude is mad that his wife wants to cheat on him, fair enough.
If he is mad that some other married dude wants to cheat on his wife with his wife but is secretly proud of it.. ok, whatever.

Could be fake but if it were … Id bet he’d drop some sort of hint as to who it could be to keep attention on it ( he didn’t ).
Also I think it would be more likely that the details of the wife having dated the player prior and initiating the sexting later on herself, those wouldn’t be written that way if it were intended to be a salacious troll.
If it were just an attention seeking made up story … The player would have been the aggressor and the author more of the blindsided victim.
You can usually tell when someone is just doing creative writing by how it’s put together, as long as you stop and think about it for a moment.
