Eli Manning leads Giants to OT win vs. 49ers in 2011 NFC Championship Game | New York Giants

This day in Giants history: January 22, 2012 – In maybe the toughest game of his career, Eli Manning faced down the league’s best defense, getting battered and beaten as he threw 58 passes without a turnover. The man got the hell beat out of him, and he just kept getting back up. His tenacity, coupled with 10 catches by Victor Cruz and two special teams takeaways, gave the Giants a stirring 20-17 overtime win over the 49ers en route to Super Bowl XLVI.

  1. Toughest game Eli faced in his career. He took way too many hits and kept getting back up undertaker style. I remember him having to pull grass off his helmet and his shoulder pads popping out of his jersey. I don’t think any other QB would’ve lasted, even Brady IMO. Eli is as tough as it gets.

  2. Legendary performance.

Whenever anyone says “DEFENSE CARRIED ELI TO TWO TITLES” they clearly don’t know about this game.

  3. Could you imagine your QB throwing a pick to end the season instead of winning the game?

    I couldn’t.

  4. One of the most emotionally taxing games of my life, more than the super bowl two weeks later. Eli put up 316 and 2 TDs against SF’s elite D despite being hit 20 times.

  5. I swear, if they ever do a double box set of 2007 and 2011 on DVD, I’ll wear it out inside a month.

Also, we’ve all seen the Tynes run after he kicked the winner, but listening to Victor “We’re going to Superbowl!!” is hilarious.

  6. Gutsiest playoff performance from a QB that I’ve ever seen. Eli went full Steve Rogers “I can do this all day” mode.
