  1. Makes sense a 38 year old guy didn’t want to risk one of his last seasons on a team that’s aiming to compete in 2025-2026.

  2. Oh fuck off, you wanted more money and Stearns told you no. You’re trash dawg don’t try and spin it

  3. Lmao I know this is about Ottavino, but it’s also a part of the legacy of Max Scherzer’s Mets career.

Shit the bed in our first post season appearance in 6 years. Shit the bed often in his starts the subsequent season.

Threw a tantrum when the team reacted to a lost season. **Declared to the baseball world the Mets were punting 2024 (and the FO tried to refute for a bit). Which undoubtedly influences players’ decisions on whether to sign with the Mets going into 2024.**

And walked away with a WS championship and an extra $130 million for his twilight years.

  4. Don’t mind all these short term players leaving but Canha is the one I’ll miss dearly.

  5. He wanted to restructure the deal and stay but the Mets didn’t want him. This is probably what his agency told him to tell people

  6. Shit man, right or wrong – Ottavino *himself* isn’t going to compete this year either so who cares?

Old ass dump cake is cooked as hell. Enjoy getting fucking rocked on the mound for a month or so before your washed up noodle arm is FDA’d.

  7. Well when he signs with a team “competing” in 24, this will mean more to me.

I got a crisp George Washington that says the Mets end up with a better record than whoever Adam signs with

  8. If the uncertainty was the main factor he wouldn’t have tried to restructure the deal to get more years and money.

He opted out because he had $6.75mil left on the deal with $4mil of that deferred to 2032-2035. He was only seeing $2.75mil of that this year after a similar structure last year. That’s the main reason. He can get more money on the market and more importantly he can get than money now.

All the other stuff just made the decision easier.

And if he doesn’t get as much as he thought on the market he can just say “well like I said, I left because of the uncertainty not the money…” and save face
