With a season in the bag… thoughts on our rookies this season and where does this draft rank among others for us?

  1. This has to be one of the better ones for sure, right?

Looking at the list right now, Kancey was definitely worth the hype, he is about to become a very very important player for us, I can see him being a future pro-bowler in his career even.

This sub is sometimes too critical of Mauch, I think he shown some amazing flashes for what he is, and it was always expected to be patient with his transition from college to NFL, but the fact he was a starter and he didn’t look like out of place and had some elite plays is enough for me to forgive some mistakes here and there. He should get better with time IMHO and I really think near the end of his rookie contract we’d be looking at a real stud that we’d love to stay forever.

YaYa..holy shit, I forgot he was R3 pick and not R2, this might be a steal in retrospect, he is so fucking good.

For SirVocea I was really curious how he’ll be in his first season and how we’d use him. Apparently..not too much or as much I would’ve hoped for. So the jury is still out. I think we may see more of him next season, but then again it would be his first more playing-heavy season for us so I guess the real grade on him will happen with time

Out of the others.. I am so fucking high on Tre, if Canales stays he better utilize him and his speed. He has the skills. He is still raw, but he really is growing into a WR3 for us, and I think the project next season should be how to better utilize him so come 2025 or so he’d be WR2 even. He has raw potential, I like him but like I said, he’s still a rookie so it’s a bit of a project.

Same with Durham, he had some insane catches, and I was shocked to see how good he was in that department, he made a couple of iffy throws into catches. We’d see how they plan on using him in the future, but I think he is a great athlete, it seems kinda that he is the player they hoped Ko Kieft will be come.

Out of the undrafted rookies I reaally want to see Sean Tucker and his potential, they must realy hate his training stuff cause he never even got a chance this eason which fucking sucks. I hope he stays and gets more chances next season

  2. Kancey and Diaby look like absolute studs with very high ceilings, both seem like excellent picks. Big play trey looks like good value as a 6th rounder, happy to have him as our wr3. I would love to see him get more volume next year. Mauch showed potential later in the year, I’m hopefully that he can develop into a plus starter sooner rather than later. Didn’t see a lot of Dennis, Durham, Hayes, or Ramirez, but considering they were 5 and 6th rd picks, you can’t expect much. Bonus points for finding a gem in udfa Izien, love that guy. Overall I think this was a really good draft, if mauch takes a step forward next year, we could be talking about A to A+.

  3. 1, 2, 3 and 6 all played well. I don’t remember the rest getting much play time. I also want to point out what a good job Izien did. Going undrafred but still making the team and having big plays in almost every game. Amazing effort by all, can’t wait to see more.

  4. Kancey – Haven’t seen much of him but even without a full season he impressed. Dude has amazing strength and he and Vita have that interior on lock

Mauch – He struggled. But it’s a rookie year so I won’t be too harsh

    Diaby – Elite

Dennis – I never really paid much attention to him besides the few times I see him make a tackle and think “oh yeah that guy”

Durham – Hardly played. Showed nothing bad though.

Hayes – Fast and tons of potential.

Palmer – Same story. He has tons of speed but he’s all gas and no brakes. Mike and Chris are route technicians though so I have faith he’ll learn and grow.

  5. Sophomore year will make or break this class. Im pretty excited though, and looking forward to the new batch of rookies too.

  6. Kancey truly played at an elite level as the season progressed from the interior line spot 5 sacks as a rookie who missed time with injury is very good. His pressure rate is amazing and next to big Vita the sky is the limit a pro bowl calibre player with his trajectory.

Cody Mauch had his ups and downs similarly to Alex Cappa, Ali Marpet and 90% of the rookie offensive linemen joining the league. He has plays where he looks lost and plays where he looked dominant still he needs to improve his play strength to maximize his potential but I like what I see from Mauch and with a better C/LG he will end up looking better by proxy

I remember being here and calling the YaYa Diabey pick for us right before it happened he was just the perfect value player who would fly under the radar from misuse at Louisville. Diabey is dominant in the run game and brings high energy when converting his pressures. Still learning how to be a true EDGE player but if he continues improving and starts getting a better pass rush repertoire similarly to Barrett’s he will be a perennial double digit sack guy

Another pick I called was Sirvocea to us just because he would fit that Todd Bowles ILB who can pass rush mold along with his few bright spots in coverage at Pitt. Injuries hampered him and he never really got consistent playing time so the jury is still out here

Durham had some nice catches and should be battling Ko Kieft for TE2 next season for a 5 round pick that’s really all you can ask for but he has flashed some.

Josh Hayes is a lot faster than I saw on tape. This guy wasn’t even on my draft board but he reminds me of Ryan Smith as a special teams ace. His coverage wasn’t abysmal either excited to see him improve in that aspect and maybe have a full time transition to Safety.

Trey Palmer was one of the BPA at his spot and he proved it this season. Really fast and set himself apart from the rest of the WR room. Still needs to learn the intricacies of the position and get better in his short and intermediate routes but as a WR 3 he is great and has WR2/MVS potential.

Jose Ramirez never got off the practice squad but as a bottom of the 6th dart throw we shall see what we can do with him. He is an amazingly technical pass rusher like Barrett but he isn’t the athlete you want. Look to see if he or Gill make the roster as the last EDGE.

Also shoutout to Christian Izien! UDFA that made the roster with Merriweather and started all year as our NCB and never looked out of place. Really his steadiness allowed us to use AWJ properly and he should have that spot locked up for next season! Bright future for him

  7. Kancey is a menace, sky is the limit.

Mauch was a liability. He gave me a little bit of hope that he was adjusting to NFL power mid year and then he completely regressed. Maybe he gets on TB12 and lives in the gym from now until August but he got thrashed worse than Cappa or Goedeke did so I don’t see a year two miracle in his future. This sub wrote off Goedeke last year and he has been solid though so anything can happen. We’re stupid if he’s handed the starting job and we don’t have a backup plan next year.

YaYa can be a solid edge player. Don’t think he’s a lead dog pressure guy, we probably will need to go buy one in free agency, but he could threaten 10 sacks a year.

Dennis was disappointing but he missed a lot of time with injuries so asterisk I guess. Britt and Russell turned out to be pretty solid which was unexpected and took some opportunity from him but the position group is still unsettled. He’ll be in the mix for a bigger role next year.

Durham is intriguing, dude knows how to use his freakish length as a receiver. If he can come in year two and just not get his ass violently torn off and handed to him as a blocker on a snap to snap basis (looking at you 88) he could have a much bigger role. He’s not someone who should prevent us from making a concerted effort at the position this offseason though. Building a mid zone run first offense with heavy 12 personnel usage with our tight end group was an unserious move and it paid off with unserious results.

Hayes was a solid special teamer. 6th round is where you find those guys. Nice pickup.

Palmer is fun. He’s got size and speed and he can play. You can never have too many of those. Would have liked to have seen him make more of the opportunities that playing beside 13 and 14 create. Maybe he’s a WR3, maybe a WR4, remains to be seen. You can never have too many big guys who can run and catch. Good value in the 6th again.

Ramirez lost his job to Gill who is a coaches pet/long term project and Markees Watts who was a pretty solid undrafted piece. I don’t have an issue taking a swing on a mega productive pass rusher. Maybe he finds his way on the practice squad and becomes the next Cam Gill.

Izien was maybe our most consistent secondary guy not to be an all pro? He’ll be around. Mike Greene was a starter to open the season and he’s another guy who could carve out a rotational role next year just based on who won’t be back and what we need. Sean Tucker was a huge disappointment. As inefficient as White was him not getting any looks as the season progressed is a glaring indictment.

It was a great rookie class, a ton of those guys played meaningful snaps and we won a playoff game. If Mauch turns it around, it’s a masterclass.

  8. Got to be one of the best ones but mauch was terrible still don’t get why we skipped on Torrence and wish we drafted Puka instead of Durham but Palmer, diaby, and Palmer are studs
