The Raiders brought Tom Telesco back for a second interview on Monday, and had coach Antonio Pierce meet with him to see how the two meshed. That worked and Vegas also liked Telesco’s experience, the Chargers’ roster makeup, Telesco’s knowledge of the AFC West.

  1. If you want knowledge of the AFC West, why not interview somebody from the Chiefs front office?

  2. As it’s often said – you have to first to win your division before you can really talk about winning the Super Bowl.

    I don’t love the decision, but I can see why he edged out the other candidates. He likely had familiarity with our roster so could talk more in depth about our rosters’ strengths & weaknesses and forecasting decisions to get ahead based on contracts & salary cap considerations. Can easily see how he might’ve demonstrated he is “managing” vs. talking too in-depth of an area he was particularly skilled in (scouting, player evaluations).

  3. If he and AP can mesh and build a solid roster, then lfg. I’ll send Mark an apology fruit basket or something

  4. I love that people are like he only hit on 9/11 first round picks and secured a qb that isn’t shit as a negative, like they wouldn’t shit their pants in public to have that over the last 10 years for the Raiders. Then their next line is “fucking dude drafted Tillery (who’s on our fucking roster) what a miss.”

  5. Posted this some weeks ago when he first entered the rumor mill, but here it is again:

    **Players drafted under Tom Telesco (*with Chargers*):**

    * Justin Herbert (*controversial & mocked at the time*)
    * Joey Bosa
    * Keenan Allen
    * Rashawn Slater
    * Asante Samuel Jr. (***same draft as Slater***)
    * Denzel Perryman
    * Derwin James
    * Hunter Henry (***same draft as Bosa***)
    * Mike Williams
    * Melvin Gordon (*same draft as Perryman*)
    * Desmond King
    * Jason Verrett (*stud when he was actually healthy*)

    That said.. their last 2 drafts have been… not great.
    Staley was the Head Coach for 3 of those drafts.

    Also of note: the Chargers’ cap situation is.. [not pretty](https://www.reddit.com/r/raiders/comments/1922dfj/pelissero_the_chargers_requested_an_interview/kh0hlkg/). And they completely blew Herbert’s rookie contract window.

    **NOW:** I’ve had quite a few laughs over the years at contracts / cap moves the Chargers have made so hopefully Telesco is **NOT** the one tasked with that here. Tom Delaney’s done some magic for us over the years.

    Everyone also needs to realize a couple other things:

    * The Chargers’ coaching has been ***terrible*** for years
    You could bring in all the right ingredients, but if your chef is dogwater then nothing will matter.
    * The Chargers’ ownership is *notoriously* cheap, so if Telesco *was* involved in HC picks, who knows how much **his desired** candidates were vetoed by ownership due to costs.
    * Mark is NOT cheap and has shown a willingness to spend big. Mark just wants to win, f*ck the costs.
    * The Chargers have consistently been riddled with injuries, for reasons nobody seems to understand. Even players with no injury history just seem to suddenly get injured. We mollywhopped the Chargers with both Justin Herbert and Keenan Allen out (injured)..

  6. **Knowledge of AFC West** This is important. Probably knows the weaknesses in our roster better than Ziegler. Already hates Chiefs and Broncos, now hates Chargers. Solid hire
