Paul George asks Gilbert Arenas if he could still hoop in the NBA today because Paul Pierce said he could : “NO, NO, NO. Shut up man, we seen what you looked like at the end. We be acting like we finished averaging 30, no we finished averaging 4 and 5, ten years ago. Crazy as hell. Hell nah.”

  1. Gil actually played pretty well for us during his twilight years. Not a world beater by any means but still contributed in limited minutes. All about expectations

  2. PG: “Paul Pierce thinks he could get some wide open 3’s”

Gil: “I can give you wide open”

    lmfao

  3. The issue is never can you score a bucket, or play one possession or hell even one game… it’s the 82 game grind. That’s a young man’s sport for a reason. Jordan is the GOAT, but he’d have his handed to him if he sport up today (in his old body).

Pierce averaged 3.2 ppg … seven years ago. So yeah, no.

  4. Every time I see Paul Pierce nowadays he looks completely stoned, also he always had a lot of self confidence, often misplaced, but that also what made him such a stone cold killer as a player in the early 2000s. So I’m not giving too much thought into what he’s saying. Still one of my favourite baller to watch of all time in his prime.

  5. There were few players as electric and confident as Gilbert Arenas pre-knee injuries when the Hibachi got sizzling. In my mind, I have Arenas wearing that[ gold jersey the Wizards had for a bit](https://cdn.vox-cdn.com/thumbor/T12wNZkHSDmf4yK2l_AGGN6ZJ5s=/1400×0/filters:no_upscale()/cdn.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_asset/file/19933071/72936173.jpg.jpg) balling the fuck out. Doing shit like turning around before his shot went in.

One of those 2k legends in those years too. He was filth.

With that said, he was washed well before he retired lol

  6. What’s this, a former player giving praise to the young generation and their talents? This is why I love Gil, calls a spade a spade

  7. As crazy as his takes sound Gil is actually really humble. Well realistic. A fan told him he could’ve been Harden in todays NBA and he said not only was he not passing as much as Harden, hardens signature shot is going away from the basket with a hand in his face, he was trying to get closer to the rim. Gil had the range. I think he would’ve had a Dame type career if his knee didn’t blow out. 3 all NBA’s before the age of 25

  8. Let’s not forget PP was making game winning post season plays on the Nets and Wizards

  9. Only guys whom I think can put together a few minutes off the bench and not be absolutely dogshit are Reggie and Ray.

They’ve kept in good enough shape and shooters like them never lose that touch.

  10. To the defense of Pierce, he did acknowledge that he’d limited to like 15 minutes minutes max and could only really provide some made threes on open looks and maybe a couple defensive rebounds, not like the dude was talking about averaging 25 points a game or something lol

  11. I’ve always been curious what a 40 something former star would look like if given the opportunity to seriously run. It’s not like you suddenly forget how to play and lose all your skills.

I imagine the closest we’ll see is very late career Kobe, where you *could* still put up 20 a night, but would do so with terrible efficiency while needing the offense catered to you. The team would be terrible obviously and no coach would tank so drastically for such an experiment, but it sure would be fun to watch.

  12. what a great episode. gil is so fucking self-aware while saying the most out of pocket shit.
