Heyman: The price for Cease is said by one GM (not Baltimore’s) to be “the sun and the moon.”

  1. I would love to know what Getz is asking for and what his strategy is with Cease.

Is he really willing to hold onto him into the season and hope there’s no injury or a second down season in a row?

Is he just playing some long game of chicken with opposing GMs, knowing that the market is extremely slow right now? Does he take this all the way until pitchers and catchers report and then start to drop the price?

  2. I love how Getz is handing the situation. Two years of control at an extremely affordable price for a higher than average pitcher should warrant the sun and the moon. Lower the price next offseason when he only has 1 year of control.

We either keep Cease and have a reason to watch every fifth day, or we trade him and get some high end prospects that I pray to god this team can develop properly. Either way I’m not upset.

  3. Other teams: Want Cease for as cheap as possible.

White Sox: Only want to trade Cease for a good return.

The advantage for the Sox is there isn’t a lot of starters on the market, let alone a guy who would be seen as a #1. Giolitto got 2 years 38.5M in FA because of this. Our fans who are mad about the Sox not taking pennies on the dollar are delusional. Cease is under contract thru next year so we’re in no rush to trade him.

  4. I think he’s right to do so and will garner more interest at the deadline if he can’t make a deal now.

Teams that are trading for SP at the deadline are usually desperate.

  5. He’s right in doing so. Cease is a good pitcher regardless of his down year. It would make no sense to trade him for little in return, especially when his cy young season could be right around the corner.
