Karl Anthony Towns and Paul George talking about how the NBA Bubble was “prison”

https://youtube.com/shorts/qTh8_ZJQE3A

This is wild. First time seeing this clip. I’ve seen other athletes say stuff like this before but this one is on another level. I love Paul George and his podcast has mostly been a surprising success with a bunch of W takes by PG but this one could not be further from one.

Paul George complaining that they didn’t open up all of Disneyland, all the rides, all the golf courses, and all the lakes is insane. And apparently they did eventually get those just not right away. Him and KAT multiple times call it a “prison” unironically.

I don’t know why no other athlete doesn’t have the perspective Steven Adams did explaining how it’s a resort and “this is not Syria mate”

PG somehow puts LeBron’s comments to shame comparing the bubble to The Shining.

Love PG and keep doing what you do but this is a way off P take

  1. I mean I get it, in no situation would anyone want to feel trapped somewhere. Of course they are saying this casually because they are semi joking and don’t have any experience with prison. I’m not gonna bury them for it, it’s just whatever.

  2. With everything that was happening social-politically at the time of the bubble, this choice of words is like rancid milk

  3. Getting paid millions to hoop in a confined area for a few months, especially knowing that the average citizen of this country were also confined in their homes, some with no income, because their jobs were shut down. These athletes live in a different reality and are out of touch. Prison! GTFO!

  4. That’s kinda hilarious, I’ve only really heard Heat players’ experience of the Bubble and they all saw it as more of a boot camp rather than prison. Otherwise I’m pretty sure they were all pretty cool with the concept, you were basically at a resort after all loll. Just shows how important mentality is, I’m not surprised some of these guys crashed out if they couldn’t hack that situation. Keeping in mind it was literally a global pandemic too, the fuck were they expecting lmao

  5. > complaining that they didn’t open up all of Disneyland, all the rides, all the golf courses, and all the lakes

my brother in christ do you not understand that you need PEOPLE to make all that shit happen? uhhhhh yeah I think more people should come in and risk exposure to covid for minimum wage so I can ride Splash Mountain

  6. Typical rich douchebag attitude. They live in a whole different world. They’ll never get it, which is surprising when you think about how many of them came from poor backgrounds

  7. As someone who went through basic training nearly 20 years ago, I have little sympathy for their experience lol.

  8. No bottle popping or groupies is basically a professional athletes hell for the most part

  9. Everything was on lockdown. It was either you cancel the season (and lose out on your $30mil+ salaries) or spend a couple weeks in a spot where the rest of the population goes to vacation.

The NBAPA correctly chose to play.

  10. It’s one thing to feel aggrieved about a forced stay in luxurious surroundings but it’s another level of clueless to complain about it to the general public. It must be freeing to live with so little self-awareness or sense of perspective.

  11. The World: People can’t see their relatives dying in hospitals because of COVID protocols…hell, most didn’t even get a funeral.

NBA Players: It’s so tough playing basketball while staying at a resort. This is prison.

  12. For a sub that uses terms like “destroyed” and “explodes” when referring to a dunk, you guys sure clinch your butt cheeks when a player exaggerates about the bubble.

  13. I was an RN on the floor at my hospital where people basically went to either die or die but more slowly. Saying this kind of shit lets me know how mentally soft these dudes are.

  14. PG and somebody were talking about LG, maybe ot was even KAT, and they talked about how at certain events KG intimidate the crew into letting the players eat first because they’re “putting their bodies on the line.” Like, yeah, you may have a higher chance of not being able to play with your grandkids than a cameraman, but you’re also making hundreds of millions of dollars over the course of your career.

Like, those players could all go to KGs house and have just as much gourmet food and it would make less of a dent in his net worth than buying a chocolate bar would to my financial situation.

Also, they just fucking go home after. They don’t work all day. The crew is gonna be working for hours and hours after people eat. It’s so fucked up to deny them food.

  15. Some people were stuck at home during covid unsure if they’ll keep their job, how to pay for stuff and some were locked inside with abusive partners/parents etc and these players that are set for life whine about this lmao

Better believe they’ll turn around and talk about sacrifice and dedication without a hint of self reflection.

  16. Spoiled NBA players: This is prison!!

99.9% of the world: I wish I could live in a place that nice.

  17. Each NBA team should be required to have one player who has done like 5 years in prison just to give the other players a perspective on the real world and make sure they don’t say dumb shit.

  18. In the sense that they didn’t have to pay for their rooms or food while performing labor to generate income for a multibillion dollar industry? Sure

But I have a feeling that’s not what they’re talking about lol

  19. I actually didn’t ride a single roller coaster during the pandemic either so I too feel like I was in prison.

  20. Ive noticed it’s only American players who complain where as international players who probably have more worldwide perspectives don’t.

I agree it must’ve been tough at times not seeing your families and just being locked in but like OP said, they have it so good and complaining is so out of touch.

  21. These guys probably wanted to go to their nightly strip clubs after a game, which is why they thought it was a prison instead.

  22. You saw clip of Russell saying he’s gonna use that IST money for 1 vacation lol, just a couple hundred of thousands

They’re just used to no limits lifestyle, pick and choose whatever they want

Sending 100k as the solution for knocking someone up, send da video

    whats da hol up

  23. Because most of these guys have been coddled their whole life and have no other perspective. They think they do and want to believe they are just regular dudes, but when you spend your entire adult life with millions of dollars and don’t know anything else then your perception of struggle is ludicrous

  24. I stopped listening to No Dunks after they had a guest on during the pandemic who was a sports writer covering that bubble. The guest (I don’t recall his name) kept saying the same thing, that this bubble was “jail” for the players and tried to equate NBA players who make more in a year than most will in a lifetime to race relations – white owners putting black men in jail

When none of the hosts intervened to tell the guy to pump the brakes, I stopped listening. I liked that show but it was insane that they have a platform to someone who talked about that whole thing like Adam Silver locked these guys away and threw away the key

  25. I think it’s fair to acknowledge that the COVID-19 pandemic was (and to some degree still is) a very weird time. We had a lot of the liberties we take for granted taken away or restricted.

Obviously there’s a good reason for that; many of the measures were for legitimate safety reasons. But it’s also ok to recognize the unpleasantness of feeling cooped up and not having the freedoms you used to have. We can accept the necessity of it while still being unhappy about being confined.

On the other hand, a bunch of basketball players who make millions of dollars don’t have much to complain about in comparison to the countless working-class people who were much more affected. So they need to keep it in perspective and realize how privileged their complaints sound to the rest of us.

  26. OP being irresponsible and is lowkey race baiting. KAT was just listening to PG do a rich guy rant with variations of “oh wow, really?”.

PG calling it prison is wild, but it IS okay to complain about being lied to.

  27. KAT lost his mom to COVID. It’s wild that this is how he feels about the bubble, given that the NBA worked hard to ensure they could resume the season without causing an outbreak, and were successful in doing so.

  28. I mean what do you expect them to say? Rich, high profile athletes are pretty out of touch with reality.
