Bears targeting Brian Burns in FA?

Part of the Eric Washington hire could also be to do with his positive relationship with Brian Burns when he was in Carolina. The Bears made an enquiry for him in the #1 pick trade last year and just before the trade deadline in November 2023. It would seem fitting we’re targeting him again in FA in 2024.

  1. It’d be hilarious to take the panthers best wr, best defensive player, the #1 overall pick, and 2 2nd rounders for Bryce Young

  2. I can’t imagine Carolina lets him go. They turned down trading him for multiple (I think, could be wrong) first round picks…why would they just let him go for nothing lol

  3. There’s no way he doesn’t get tagged this year. If the relationship sours enough he might hit free agency next year when the tag gets more expensive, but odds are they would trade him instead since you can’t tag a player three times and they don’t want him to pull a Cousins and walk away for free. And I doubt he would be available in a trade for as little as we paid for Sweat, it’ll likely cost a first and more which would probably be too rich for us. That would be a heck of an edge group though.

  4. Lmfao. They didn’t hire a defensive coordinator because he’s got a solid relationship with one specific player they might target if he reaches free agency.

  5. They gave up a 2nd for Sweat paid then 100 million dollars.

They’re not going to spend a lot on another DE IMO. Especially with such a deep draft class.

  6. If he can avoid the tag, bears would definitely be favorites for him.

I’m sure he sees a rising and promising defense and bears already having Sweat on the other side. I know that’s a lot of money for 2 ends, but bears can get a large amount paid up front.

And on a side note, but still about EWash, he’s the perfect guy to get Dexter improved on his jump off. I’m really excited how this dline is going to be for the next few years.

  7. Sweat was our big splash at edge. We’re not paying 2 guys $20M plus. Chris Jones makes more sense.

  8. Would absolutely much rather have him over chase young. Burns would be a fkn home run signing to pair with sweat man
