A little bit of philosophy as we approach the trade deadline.

All I can think of every time someone suggests that we can’t risk overpaying either in a trade, or to the guys we trade for.

  1. There’s a difference, what people are saying is not to over pay for pieces that don’t move the needle, what this is saying is the Steve balmer type mentality. Balmer wouldn’t care what level of luxury tax he has to pay if it means a roster he believes can win a chip. What people on the sub are preaching is more like, “ hey I don’t think we should trade 2 firsts and then give an underperforming player a max contract”

    (refer tobi).

This would be akin to if milkal or Lauri were available you throw everything you have to get them and if necessary go into luxury tax with salary because of their value to the roster.

  2. At the very least we can all agree that nothing comes cheap in the nba. Excited to see how it plays out.

  3. what op is saying are good takes. seems like half this sub reddit would rather lose in the second round again then “lose” a trade.

so what if we give an extra first more then a players value should be on the market to get our guy, if he gives us even a 10% better chance of winning the chip in what’s looking like our best ever shot to do it then fuck that first and fuck winning a damn trade.

  4. what you’re missing is opportunity cost and the lack of assets.

If we were in OKC’s position, trading an extra first will still leave us with a lot of assets in the case that if the trade doesn’t work out, it still keeps us in the running for future players that could come up

But we don’t have that many assets to play with. We essentially have one, maybe two moves to make to try and get over teams like Boston who start 5 all stars.

If we do something like trade our firsts for guys like Bojan or something we’re screwed. He won’t change our fortunes and we’re down another asset that we could’ve tried to piece together for someone else who comes up in the market.

Overpaying is the cost of winning sure, that’s the case if overpaying actually raises your ceiling enough to compete with the rest. But what good is burning money lol…

  5. I’m glad people can get this kind of shit for free on YouTube nowadays so they’re not wasting their money on books, tapes, and seminars like they used to.

At least they have more money in their pockets instead of sending it to jabronis like Tony Robbins or this MRA dunce.

  6. Every now and then I see a signpost that I need to take another vacation from this sub. See yall in a couple weeks when the boredom outweighs the tax on my mental health again.
