  1. I’m not surprised, his agent said they wouldn’t negotiate in season.

I’m not advocating for the Pens to trade Jake, but Dubas would be crazy to not at least listen to offers in case a team offers a massive overpay

  2. I don’t know how legit this is but if this is true you have to trade him. Seeing what Calgary got for Lindholm if they got something similar they’d be insane

  3. Seravalli pretty much saying what a lot of us have been berated for saying on here, that there’s no point in giving a soon-to-be 30 year old Jake Guentzel a huge contract to be the best player on a bad team.

I know there is a degree of sentimentality involved, and there’s nothing wrong with that, but you’re going to have a hard time convincing me that in ~3 years time you’d rather have an aging Jake Guentzel making $9M+ (probably with a full NMC) than have whatever a similar package of assets to what Calgary just got for Lindholm can turn into.

  4. Pay him and move on. You’ll get a late 1st and a meh prospect for him as a rental. The likelihood of either of those turning into Jake, or even a useful NHL player is unlikely.

  5. I know the article says Seravalli said it, but I just looked through his tweets and couldnt find anything about Guentzel rejecting a contract offer. Frankly, “puckreporter.com” isnt a known good source and seems to be making this up, unless someone can point me to where FS said this.

  6. Yes, let’s trade the only productive player that’s not at or passed retirement age. So “Rebuild” means trade of proven players for ‘prospects’ of which most will never play more than a handful of games in the NHL, let alone a 1st line.

  7. Welp, if this is true, trade his ass. I have no interest in paying more or longer term.
