Lol, if I was Jed York I would have a quizzical look in my eyes and voice, and asked, “Didn’t we just trade an arm and a leg at your insistence to trade up to #3 for the quarterback you slobbered over and for which we paid an arm and a leg for? Kyle, you seriously telling me that Brock is better than Trey Lance?”
On one hand, it says a lot about what they thought of Purdy being the last pick in the draft having not played a single snap of live football.
On the other hand, it says a lot about how little they believed in Jimmy and Trey having been on the roster for 5 and 2 year already respectively.
One thing that may get lost in this is Kyle’s honesty. It takes balls to go up to the owner after essentially putting all your eggs in one basket in Trey Lance. I know he’s been labeled as stubborn, but this at least shows he’s willing to admit when he’s wrong to the people that matter
This rings consistent with what we have heard over the last 2 seasons about Brock out performing Jimmy and Trey in practice. It’s interesting that Kyle told Jed that to his face, but either way it just goes to show you that what Brock is doing is *not* a fluke. What he’s doing has always been there.

I’m so happy where we’re at right now, but I wanna know what was going through the minds of Kyle, John, and Jed in that offseason. I’m not trying to dog pile on Trey, but Trey never looked NFL ready and you have to wonder what was going on in the building at that time. Any worries? All I know is none of that matters anymore lol
Honestly, it just further proves the point that QB evaluation is a crap shoot. Because this to me shows that Kyle knows how to coach and what to look for in a QB once he gets him in building. You can look at tape until your face turns blue but even with the interviews and team workouts, its impossible to evaluate a QB fully until you get him around all the time and see how he reacts mentally to specific things. QB play is so much more mental than any other position in the game and pure arm talent, speed, or good tape don’t really tell the whole story. Fit, mental readiness/preparedness/toughness, and just general football IQ means just as much as arm talent(except you HAVE to have some level of arm talent of course).
Also as I said in another comment, really shows you how much faith and honesty there is in that room with John, Kyle, and Jed.
He was not bragging about depth.
I’m not gonna lie as the owner I would have been EXTREMELY worried if my coach just told me the #3 pick we spent 3 firsts on was worse than Mr. Irrelevant.
Crazy how any other GM/coach gets fired for what happened with Trey. But then we got this dude Purdy
Well… its because he is. By a lot.
Trey Lance is the single biggest bust in NFL history as far as I’m concerned. 3 1sts for a guy who spent year 3 on a practice squad.

This isn’t surprising if you read the tea leaves. There was almost no positivity coming out of the organization about Lance during that summer. He was clearly going to be on a very short leash had he not gotten injured.
By the of the season with the rise of Purdy, they were done with Lance and ready to move on.
Y’know I can’t help but to think about a post that was here during training camp or maybe beginning of the season last year. The video was Jimmy and Brock throwing some practice balls and Jimmy’s looked like he was throwing ducks and Brock was nearly perfect. And the poster said “god damn even mr irrelevant looks better than Jimmy” I thought he was just being a doomer…I’m sure we both couldn’t have guessed this was to happen lol
