[ESPN] Banned CB Rodgers says bets made for others

  1. > At the time of his suspension, ESPN reported that Rodgers had placed more than 100 bets — including Colts games — and most were in the $25 to $50 range. One wager, in particular, stood out: a $1,000 prop bet on the over/under on rushing yards by Colts running back Jonathan Taylor, which Rodgers won.

    > “That report is true, with it being $1,000, but that report wasn’t made from my device,” Rodgers told ESPN. “The $25 to $50 bets are exactly true, but it was more crazy-leg parlays with just $25 trying to make a crazy amount. Just funny bets. Nothing too serious. It was never, ‘This bet here is going to change my life.'”

    > Rodgers was asked why he would jeopardize the $850,000 salary he was set to earn during the 2023-24 season.

    > “I questioned myself, too,” Rodgers told ESPN. “But I thought I probably wouldn’t get caught, wouldn’t get in trouble.”

  2. Could have really used your dumb ass this season with the state of our cb room. Still salty he did this.. dude flashed constantly on the field.

  3. I think this makes him look even dumber? If those others weren’t NFL players they could have used literally ANYONE else to place the bets and it would all be fine?

  4. These guys don’t know the danger they could be in if they lose a bet to the wrong person. Once you’ve in over their head with a guy who’s connected you will NEVER be free from them. And once you do something that might affect the outcome of a game the league WILL FIND OUT and then your career is over and your name is tainted for the rest of your life. You WILL GET CAUGHT

  5. I might be in the minority on this within the sub, but the guy deserves nothing less than a lifetime ban. We simply can’t have players betting on games they play in. Player betting on games within their own league is bad enough, but gambling on games you literally play in is the worst case scenario for the league.

He knew it was a huge point of emphasis in the league after the Ridley ordeal. He admits that. He goes as far to say “I didn’t think I would be caught.” That means that he took effort to hide his identity when placing the bets he played in.

This, to me, isn’t a complex issue. If the league didn’t catch this as fast as they did, I wouldn’t be surprised if this snowballed into some never before seen punishments on the Colts organization.

He’s an idiot. An idiot who comes out a year later lying and telling half truths. While he was a good, promising, player… and we really could have used him… He should never see the field again. The fact he tried to hide his identity while placing the bets shows his true character and intentions.

  6. I think the rule is dumb when you consider anything can happen in a game so it’s still a gamble regardless. But rules are rules

  7. Glad he somebody picked him up…..deserves a second chance he knows he fucked up but he’s owning

  8. How fun would it be to work in IT for one of these pro sports teams. I bet you see some SHIT.
