  1. Not the deal I would have hoped for, but it’s the deal we got. 🤷🏻‍♂️

  2. So how do we feel about this? On paper he has tons of offensive potential, but seems like he’s a defensive liability.

  3. I like it because he’s a good player and can win faceoffs.

Hate to see firsts go just based on our track record of drafting in the first round, but you gotta shoot your shot, and we have a shot here.

  4. At this point where the Jets are in the standings, no one is giving us anything for at least a 1st rounder. So I’m not overly shocked. I trust Chevy made calls on everyone and Monaghan was probably the best deal he could get.

Edit: Hopefully we can recoup that 1st rounder from idk….say trading away a 6’7” bum that GMs seem to overvalue?

  5. Would have preferred to just trade back Montreal’s second, but there isn’t much of a difference between that and the Jets’ first, so whatever.

Wonder what the conditional pick is though.

  6. Might have got a deal done for less closer to deadline for a similar player…but need the player now.

If you want to contend you make these moves.  More depth, Monahan can get some shelter here 5 on 5 with the rest of our C crew.  We can move Namestnikov down or over and we are a stronger team.

RHD next.  Sean Walker, Tyson Barrie or Justin Schultz to be 6/7 guy with Schmidt are my targets.

Count on them adding another vet type depth forward and D too.  Maybe a 3rd goalie who could feasibly play in a NHL game.  Delia has kind of been the shits this year.

  7. As long as the jets make a good playoff push and the and the pick is the bottom 4-8 then so be it.
The jets desperately needed another center.

  8. If we get Monahan and aren’t losing a roster player, with Scheif and Gus about to come back, does that mean we might be losing more people on waivers?

  9. The conditional pick is a 3rd in 2027 if the Jets win the cup

I’ll take that deal any day of the week

  10. Habs fan here. If you need a scouting report from the lens of a fan, here it is: he’s a good finisher and he’s solid in transition. He doesn’t drive play all that much and, while he tries, isn’t all that good when trying to play defense. He doesn’t take plays off, and can wheel if he needs to.

He’s going to put up a lot of points with you guys, but I also think he’ll have you guys wishing you ponied up for Lindholm. He’s quite streaky and can disappear for 3-4 games at a time.

  11. Habs think they could’ve got a bit more. We think we could’ve given up a bit less… with both sides feeling whelmed I think that’s a sign of a fair enough trade. Hope he buys in to our style and keeps getting his groove back. The trust in Chevy remains.

  12. Habs Fan here, I think you will like Monahan, especially as a 2nd line C. He was producing on a bad team, so I have to think being on a more complete roster he will excel even more. Good luck this year!

  13. I think Chevy should have waited if someone else becomes available. Now we are stuck with Monahan who’s not top 6 center.

  14. So he’s a free agent at the end of this year right? Or is he a RFA or something? I don’t really understand hockey contracts, just trying to understand how good of a deal this is.

  15. I said it earlier that I hope we are not the one to give up a 1st for this guy and here we are, I don’t want to be a downer but this is not the guy, hasn’t played a full season in like 5 years, bad defensively, I mean the Flames gave up a first to get rid of him LOL.

I mean lets be honest is he really much better than Vlad? The answer is not really.

  16. He can join Nino in our ranks of purely cosmetic visors, gotta protect from all those picks falling from the ceiling

In all seriousness I’m interested if this turns into a good fit will he be another acquisition wanting to stay
