Brock Purdy talks realizing he was an elite quarterback | Super Bowl LVIII Opening Night

To go in and produce. All right. Mr. Purdy, what’s going on? Big dawg? Here with NFL network. Question for you two. All right. Um, when did you first know that you could play in this league and be this successful man? Uh I think in camp, um, you know, there was some, some practices

And plays where I made some plays and I was like, okay, you know, I think I can do this. And so that, you know, sort of got my confidence rolling. And then week 13 against Miami going in and making some plays with, with the boys, I think that’s when I

Knew you hit a fans chanting your name man. Like what does that do for you. What does that mean for you to hear your name being chanted here on opening night at the at the Super Bowl? I mean, it’s a blessing. I mean, we got best fan base in all of

The world in the in the Niners and the faithful. So, uh, for them to have my back, it means the world gives me a lot of confidence. And I love him. So I want to play well for him. You mentioned earlier that you would be reaching out to Steve Young,

Uh, to get his advice about playing in this in this game. Did you reach out to him? And if you did, what was his advice? Honestly I haven’t yet. Yeah, he , uh, he came and spoke to the team and he just told us like, basically, you know, these opportunities don’t come around

That often. And when you do get an opportunity, um, you got to go take it as a team. And so I’m going to reach out to him with the off day tomorrow and, and see what he has to say. But he’s been nothing but great with love

And support for me and yeah, to be able to learn from a guy like that, nothing better. Brock, do you ever get upset, man? Because I mean, seriously, people keep questioning you. They keep bringing up where you were drafted and when you were drafted. But they look at all

The you look at all the numbers. Your top five in passing, you know, your you’re at the top of a lot of categories from the quarterback position. Do you ever get tired of the criticism? I mean, it’s part of the game. Um, you know, for myself, I

Focus on what I have to do every single week for every game. Um, and more than anything, I just want the respect and love for my teammates and as long as I have that, uh, then I’m okay. You know, the playing quarterback in the NFL, people are going to say

Good things, bad things that that comes with it. And so if you let that get to you, obviously that’s not good. But um, for me, man, I keep one play at a time kind of mentality. Uh, throughout the week and throughout my life. And I just,

I want to play for my boys now an NFC Championship game. You guys beat up on the Detroit Lions. They have a wide receiver in Amon-ra Saint Brown. Now he’s famous for knowing all the 16 wide receivers that got drafted before him. All right. There were eight quarterbacks that got

Drafted before you can you name them and what school they went to? No no I’m not yeah honestly I’m not that kind of guy. Um I know a couple of the guys that got drafted before me, but I’ve never held a grudge for it or anything. I’m a believer that,

You know, God has a plan for everybody. And I fell last for a reason. And so I’ve, I haven’t held any grudges against other teams. It all happened how it needed to. And I’m blessed to be a part of the 40 Niners and NFC after after the NFC Championship

Game, you were in the locker room. You talked to Nick Bosa. You said you believed you could have played better. What does that confidence come from. And if you could have played better I mean you guys won the game. What was it like? Like what else you could have done better than

What you did in the NFC Championship game? Yeah, I mean I think it’s just like early on in the game. You know we needed momentum. We needed to make plays, convert third downs. Um there had been you know some plays where I feel like I could have been better with

Progression. And so those are things that I’m hard on myself with. And I want to be better for my team. And so obviously you make plays at the end and Nick’s like, hey man, great job. Where did it all come from? And I’m like, I’m thinking about the plays that could have been

Better at so but but to have Bosa like that and have my back it’s uh doesn’t get any better. Last one and I’ll let you go brother Kyle Shanahan your head coach your play caller. Uh what has he meant to you. And how does this offense do what it

Does? Again I don’t need all your the game plan and stuff, but man, you guys put defenses in a blender. Yeah, man. His, uh, his system. You know, as a quarterback, you want to play in this kind of system because he ties everything together. The run game, play action, pass,

Drop back. He allows the quarterback to go into his system and be efficient. Um and allow the allow the quarterback to just play the position and help the team win. And so he keeps it simple. He has taught me a lot, but more than anything, he’s a competitor and

You want to go to war with the guy. I’m going to send it back into the studio to Co

Purdy

  1. My husband said he was the last draft pick. So, I knew he was a believer. God using him for HIS glory.

“So the last will be first, and the first will be last” (Matthew 20:16)

  2. Not a 49er fan, but I've become a Purdy fan. I love this kid's game, his talent, his journey and his MOXIE. I have noticed this is a very special team in terms of togetherness and seemingly really love each other. Let's go Purdy.

  3. Niners will lose this game easy if Sherman shows up at the game! No show Sherman is the Niners Curse! Stay away Sherman, you lost the last Superbowl game and got burned as usual covering only one guy! Sherman can’t lead a team to a Superbowl! Thanks to Wilson and the offense and the other defensive players when Sherman didn’t show up! Niners don’t want Sherman ! Stay away Wife abuser!

  4. He is and will always be my young Montana. I don't understand all the haters, Purdy is so down-to-earth and professional despite his young age as a rookie. He never rambles, never becomes abusive, even if there is a roughing in the passer that wasn't whistled, he gets up and continues playing. He's decent and plays his game. I hope with all my heart that Purdy leads us to victory!! He is a rising star and he deserves to lead this team to victory.

  5. He's like trying to get in his head. Purdy doesn't need a therapist. One of his great strengths is ignoring the haters and tuning out all of this. So this guy spends 10 minutes pumping it all into his head. Great.

  6. A quick experiment: I came here to comment before even watching the video, because I'd bet my house that the title is a lie, because Purdy would NEVER say that he is elite. No chance, ever. At least not in this phase of his career, before this game. I'm going to watch the video now, if I'm wrong, my house is yours.

EDIT: aaaaand I ain't homeless yet. Of course the word ELITE is never even uttered in the entire conversation, Brock is always deferring to his teammates, never claiming anything for himself. I don't get people hating on this dude. Screw em all, Go Niners. #FTTB

  7. its not that he didnt know, its that the whole world didnt believe in him and was against him, the same way the disregarded Brady. these '"experts" know NOTHING.

  8. mannnn is this kid wearing some pheromones or sumthin, his likeability is through the roofs, or you know what maybe he is such a good kid! prayin u be raisin that Lombardi Sunday night

  9. ❤ WE LOVE YOU BROCK. KEEP ROLLING BABY; THIS IS YOUR SHOW. SHINE BRIGHT, DESTINY AWAITS. ✨✨✨🏟️🏟️🏟️🏈🏈🏈🏆🏆🏆💖💖💖😇🤲😇🤲😇🤲✨✨✨

  10. These questions are boring. Nothing will ever beat the reaction of Anquan Boldin when the male SB media day reporter asked him if he was ticklish before the Ravens vs 9ers SB in 2013. The look on Boldin’s face was priceless. It was a look of some very…. non-PC thoughts about an adult male asking another adult male if he’s ticklish…….. 😬😂🏳️‍🌈

  11. I can't understand why he is so unfairly criticized. He's a great player and person, it seems. Why not root for the last player picked in the draft? It's almost like a movie.

  12. Oh wow the league is actually covering the niners? They're taking the focus away from the golden boy statefarm mascot and mr swift? oh praise be, thank you so much roger, thank you so much for this blessing, I mean I know you're letting them win again (maybe let them get away with MORE illegal hits this time too!) so Im just so thankful that brock gets this minute or two to say how happy he is just to be there, you know because you're going to let your kermit the frog, inventor of all things football, win. Again.

  13. I felt it in my core when he said God has a plan for him and he fell last in the draft for a reason. He is faithful. How can you not like this kid. I want so bad for him to win the SB on Sunday. He deserves it. From Mr. Irrelevant to hoisting that Lombardi! Let's go Purdy! One play at a time!
