  1. “Steve Largent retired from the NFL in 1989 and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. He said after that he never talked up a player to join him in the Canton, Ohio, shrine.

    That is, until now.

“Honestly, you’re the first person that’s called me about a potential Hall of Fame player that I would ever talk about,’’ the legendary Seattle wide receiver and former U.S. Congressman from Oklahoma said in an interview with The Denver Gazette. “I’m talking about Randy Gradishar because he was that influential. It’s amazing to me that he’s not in the Hall of Fame. He should have been in there 20-plus years ago.”

The versatile Broncos linebacker has been waiting 35 years to be named to the Hall of Fame since first becoming eligible in 1989. But the long wait for Gradishar, 71, is expected to finally end when the class of 2024 is announced Thursday night at NFL Honors in Las Vegas.

Gradishar, who played for the Broncos from 1974-83, was named last August as one of three senior finalists for the Hall, joining former Chicago defensive lineman Steve McMichael and late AFL star receiver Art Powell. The 50-member Hall of Fame selection committee voted last month on a yes-no ballot, with each needing 80% support to be enshrined.”
