[Lin] the Padres continue to be in the market for outfield additions. Teams with surpluses — the Milwaukee Brewers and Boston Red Sox, to name two — are potential trade partners.

  1. Honestly, Rob Refsnyder played the most games he ever had last year, did okay (not great), is cheap and can absolutely be a stopgap or a 4th OFer while possibly only really giving them a low end prospect and some cash.

Garrett Mitchell, Sal Frelick and Blake Perkins are all starter upside guys with plenty of control years and are on the younger side who might cost a bit more than low end prospects but are still cheap. That applies to Chris Roller too but he’s never had a major league at bat so it doesn’t feel like he’s a great add necessarily if we’re requiring him to be on the major league roster. Honestly none of these guys are great additions imo for what they would cost.

Refsnyder to me feels like our best option for a trade and then signing a guy like Eddie Rosario, Profar, Duvall, Michael A. Taylor etc. to fill in the last spot and maintain a 4 man OF rotation with Tatis and Azocar. We may need a 5th AAAA guy for depth, though I think guys like Eguy Rosario or Batten can fill the role if necessary.

  2. So, the 2 teams we do the most trades with are our best bets? You would think we already know what they offer.
