  1. We need an answer at number 1 this year.

Even if Diggs somehow turns it around at age 31, you need a successor.

Diggs was extremely inefficient in the number 1 role in the second half of the season. He can’t stay there full time.

Our first WR taken must have the tools to take over that role.

As for number 2, I think it’s solved by the same move. You can rotate all of your WRs. Shakir can play both. Diggs is more of a Z or slot WR.

Ideally, you bring in another WR during free agency. Cap looks bad, but you can shake it down to 30-40+ in cap space, depending on how much fat you want to trim off. Likely we won’t go nuclear with guys like McGovern who could be post June 1st cuts.

  2. Id be surprised if we take a WR in round 1. I think BBB will go d-line/DE in the first and WR somewhere in 2 or 3 depending on how the board falls.

  3. Not saying he’s gonna be the #2 but we’ll see what their plans are for Justin Shorter. So far they’ve had some success with mid-round receivers. Gabe in the 4th and Shakir in the 5th. Shorter also a 5th round guy, we’ll see how he pans out I suppose.

I’m not opposed to WR in the 1st but I don’t think they go that route.

  4. If the 1st pick is not spent on a WR1 type player then the Bills are fucked. And that player also must be a day 1 contributor. Diggs is clearly in decline for whatever reasons, and Kincaid is our only other explosive option rn. Our cap situation is awful and going after any elite WR in FA is going to be impossible. Draft is the only way, and honestly I’d like to see more than 1 WR taken in the draft/

  5. The only team on the league that doesn’t seem to be able to find a WR no matter what is New England. Every other team is able to target and develop them just fine.

Buffalo will either look to resign Davis or bring in another free agent WR vet who can still contribute (Tyler Boyd for example). They could go after a big name, but I find that unlikely.

A better route may be to find a potential value guy like Jennings from SF. He’s restricted but won’t command much. Could be easy to pry him away from SF and he’s a guy ready to take a step up, still young too.

The draft has a ton of WR talent like most years. So many colleges run spread pro style offenses it’s easy to get WR talent (assuming you aren’t in Foxboro. That’s the Bermuda Triangle of WR talent evaluation). Buffalo will have plenty of guys to choose from early (Franklin, McConkey, Coleman, Mitchell, Polk) and plenty late too. I like Zakhari Franklin form Ole Miss, Jamari Thrash from Louisville, Luke McCaffery from Rice, and DeCorian Clark from UTSA

  6. Thomas Jr. is my pick, and then I wouldn’t mind going with a dynamic player like Corley later on. He’s got Deebo measurables.

  7. While I could see us going DE in the first given how limited the position is in the draft, we don’t exactly have a lot of examples of McDermott getting production form a year1 d-lineman. Most of the guys we’ve taken seem to finally hit their stride in the walk year which is just too long of a development time.

We need to put more talent around Josh and not expect him to carry the team on his back. People talk about the risk of him running but I believe the injury risk is higher if we need him to constantly be making plays out of the pocket. Β Short term we need someone to take the focus off Diggs and long term we need someone to replace him.

If there is a run on WRs ahead of the bills pick, fine. But I’d expect more of the same with a ceiling in exactly the same spot if we can’t equip our best player with talented weapons.

  8. Really?? Thank god someone finally posted a thread about this or else we would never have realised that WR was a need for this team! /S

  9. This years WR group is DEEP, so even though everyone seems to be clamoring for a 1st round WR, I think we may be better off addressing DL or safety in the 1st and grabbing 2 mid round wrs.

  10. Trade up for one of the big 3 WRs. This team is one elite receiving threat away from being nearly unstoppable on offense. We have 10 draft picks this year. I would package a few of them and future picks to make this happen. Use the remaining draft capital to fill in depth on the defense.

  11. Does anyone know anything about Justin Shorter? I keep forgetting he’s on the roster. He looks like he has all the physical tools to be a future WR1 (not saying he will be, just that he has the traits of one) and is really young. I know he hurt his hamstring this season but could they have been sitting him to get him used to the offense, etc. until he was ready?

As for the draft, I really like AD Mitchell from Texas
