2024 NHL prospect pool rankings: No. 15 Calgary Flames

“The Calgary Flames’ pool is defined by its quantity of B-plus prospects, which runs arguably 9-10 deep (a couple more than any other team so far and comparable to several of the teams in front of them, for sure) thanks to a good 2023 draft, strong results in the late-first round, a find in the seventh round, and the acquisition of Hunter Brzustewicz from the Vancouver Canucks. They’re missing a true star prospect, but they’ve built a strong pool and there should be multiple solid NHLers coming.
They’ve done it without drafting in the top 10, too (their highest pick in the five classes that make up this list was No. 13). I thought about ranking them a little higher and this pool is better than your typical 15th-ranked team in the countdown.”

Of course we’re 15th.
Why are we always so mid in every. Single. Ranking.
I know the Joke is that we are forever mediocre and this kind of supports that BUT this is one of the reasons I’ve been pushing for a full rebuild (even if top brass will never call it that) and bottom out this year and next year.
Most teams who start a rebuild have a barren prospect pool because they’ve spent years drafting in the 20’s or have traded there first round picks.
Compared to other teams starting a rebuild the Flames prospect pool is actually pretty good. If we could get 2 borderline superstar players by drafting top 6 this year and next year to add to our already deep prospect pool then I think we can have a very short but successful rebuild
Ah yes, our traditional spot of being exactly in the fucking middle.
