  1. Fr, 7:30 tip off should mean 7 fucking 30, not 7:52, it’s not serious but it’s annoying as hell

  2. I can’t agree more with this.

    Where I live in the world a 7:30pm ET tip-off is 1:30am.

But Raptors games don’t actually start until around 2:00am, sometimes even 45 mins after the supposed tip-off… It’s so infuriating as a non-American fan.

  3. Out of all the whiny things I’ve heard about the NBA recently
..this I can get on board with. Have the pre-game show be the, you know, pre-game. Tip should be <2 minutes after the time I see on ESPN. Some of us are old and watching west coast games on the east coast.

    (Grumbles and sighs in “Dad”)

Also why does my ankle hurt for no reason?

  4. It’s not just the NBA. The NFL, NHL and MLB do it also. I’ll never understand it. You can get all the pre-game stuff done before the start time

  5. I’m from UK and whenever a game starts late, my first thought is “what went wrong?”. Took me a while to realise it’s just the norm, and they do it on purpose for more ads. I was so confused because a football (soccer) match starting late means there have been genuine issues…traffic, stadium floodlights not working etc

  6. The excessive stoppages are bad enough but there’s games finishing nearly 2 and a half hours after the listed tip off time as well because every game is starting 15 minutes late. There’s absolutely no need for pretty much 17 mandatory stoppages in a 48 minute game so Doc Rivers can tell the Bucks to give Giannis the ball more.

Imagine a 90 minute football (soccer) game stopping play entirely 34 times a game. The stadium would be burnt to the ground on the 2nd timeout call. The NBA has so many timeouts they use them to cool off star players. A star playing going nuclear is the best sight in basketball, let me see teams hearts get ripped out instead please.

  7. I told my co-workers about how NBA events never start at their given time and they couldn’t believe it. Matches are at 3-4 of the middle of the evening already so that extra half hour actually hurts a lot.

Meanwhile I’m running with a plate of spaghetti to catch the race start on F1 weekends.

  8. This is probably a lot more frustrating for fans in europe, where pretty much every game is at night and it’s way more annoying when it starts 30-40 minutes later then what is says lol.

  9. At 840 yesterday I looked up the all star game to see what the score was. It hasn’t started. ESPN still has the start time listed as 8

  10. NBA is a product and if you are dishing out your product 30 minutes after the “scheduled” time, there’s an issue.

  11. Premier League – kickoff is within a minute or two of scheduled time

Formula 1 – the procession lap literally starts when the clock ticks to the start time

MLB – at least has the courtesy to say things like “first pitch 7:38”

NFL (at least during the season) – wouldn’t deviate from scheduled start time for anything

    NBA – “hold my ads”

  12. I feel like this is a generational thing. Milenials (I am one) refuse to show up anywhere on time. Multiple times this week a friend who lives a 4 minute walk from us said they were on their way over and then showed up hours later or not at all. It drives me insane.

  13. Another reason the NFL is a better overall product. That shit is as efficient with time as possible.

  14. Id stay a half hour late if i made 6.75 mill a year .Yeah it can be annoying but this is just privileged complaining imo . The kids are a personal problem. Record it and show them the next morning or the next evening. Figure it out. 20-30 min isnt that detrimental

  15. Going from being a basketball fan to a recent football (soccer) fan, I was so conditioned to waiting like 15 min for a game to start. My surprise when the football matches actually start almost on the dot on when they say the match is. Crazy concept

  16. Consistently my biggest complaint about watching the NBA. I’ve conceded missing some of the first quarter cause I just start 30 min late or more (if streaming) because the start times are arbitrary

  17. It’s one thing I love about baseball and hockey. Very timely. It was super annoying figuring out when an NBA game actually starts, but now I’m just used to it

  18. As an European this is absolutely infuriating. We have to stay awake late to watch the games, and it’s so annoying when the game supposedly starts as 12:30am, but only actually starts at almost 1am

  19. I mean the majority of the league is ummm.. on that Colored people time. Don’t worry guys I’m black
