From the sound of it, at the moment buyers are waiting for more sellers to come to the market likely because their options are limited and current sellers are asking high prices. I’m not convinced an influx of sellers is coming as the playoff race is close enough that few teams with valuable assets are far enough out of the playoff picture to trade these players.
I suspect there is going to be a point where one or two teams start making trades and there is a massive rush of trades that follow. I think this years is weak for pending UFAs, especially pending UFAs on bottom teams, and teams will pull the trigger when they start to fear losing out on one of the top defense men available.
I don’t know when this panic buying is going to happen, maybe tomorrow or a week from now, but it will be relatively soon. Other teams may have a backup plan or two in case they don’t get Tanev/Hanifin, but if those come off the board they will likely rush into a trade before they’re left empty handed.
