[Masters] Rielly on Greig cross-check: “Just a reactionary thing. I just wanted to address something & it obviously got away from me. It was not intended to be executed the way it was & then the rest is history.” Eager to move on. “I’m grateful it’s almost over.”

  1. Some other Leaf quotes on Rielly [c/o Luke Fox](https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/i-didnt-convince-them-morgan-rielly-talks-cross-check-and-suspension-appeal/):

    **Morgan on his appeal:**

    > “At that point it’s kind of out of your control,” Rielly said of the ban. “We appealed, and that’s about all you can do. Obviously, we were trying to get it down because I wanted to get back on the ice, but the league made a decision and you just got to live with it.” In Bettman’s decision to uphold his department’s five-game suspension, the commissioner writes that Greig’s slapshot was “utterly irrelevant” to Rielly’s cross-check. “I didn’t convince them of anything,” Rielly said.

    **Matthews on Rielly:**

    > “In the end, it’s out of our control,” Matthews said. “We’re just gonna keep fighting and keep battling for him. And once he’s able to come back tomorrow, he’s gonna be ready to play. He’s gonna be excited to get back in our lineup, and he’s gonna be a big boost for us too — just because of who he is, the kind of person, the kind of player he is and what he means to this team, what he brings his team.”

**Nick Robertson on Rielly situation and Morgan’s overall impact on the team:**

“I guess that’s the way [Greig] wanted to send a message, and I’m glad Rielly responded to it,” Nick Robertson said. “I think we were just kind of annoyed. We were not happy with that scenario.

“He’s definitely a guy who cares. He’s been here the longest. It’s good to see guys show emotion like that. You know, it shows that he cares.”

“He’s just such a big leader in a locker room, too. Like for me last season, he stood up for me when I got hit pretty good. And he fought. So, as talented as he is, he’s willing to sacrifice his usual style of just skill. He’ll get in there and he’ll stand up for guys. It wasn’t just that he was mad that [Greig] did it. He stood up for our team. That’s something that a leader does. The benefiting factor is knowing that obviously he cares the most. He’s willing to do those things.”

  2. Bettman is a Joke man. Like yes he managed to grow a bunch of successful teams in traditionally unsuccessful hockey markets, but he’s way past his expiration date. Also gimme a break about thinking Mo was worth a 5 gamer, unless that’s the new norm going forward, I call bull on handing him 5 when worse “hits” got a fine

  3. Sounds like we’re all moving on, and I couldn’t be happier about it. Putting it into perspective I think we all agree the suspension was warranted. It was probably 1 or 2 games too harsh. Don’t like the drama around it, the leaks and so forth.

It really never should have blown up this much but we’re the Leafs and it did. Moving on.

  4. When I saw that cross check I cheered loudly and started clapping big and then I immediately wilted at the thought of having to go home and face my wife after that.

  5. The best thing the Leafs could do is just keep winning while Rielly rests up, and they’ve done that convincingly. The chirps have certainly quieted down.

  6. Love Rielly. Glad he stuck to his actions and didn’t apogize for anything. He deserved to be suspended, yes, but he did what he needed to to get this team going. Everyone points out how good we’ve been without Captain Morgan, but I have yet to see anyone credit him for being the catalyst to this win streak. Ever since his suspension this team had played with fire. Can’t wait to have him back!

  7. Rielly did the right thing, everyone with eyes can see he went for the shoulder and no name rookie’s hand rode the stick into his own face

  8. His suspension is done, that’s great. Fuck those virgins over on r/hockey clutching their pearls. They’re all looking for a reason to shit on the Leafs so they jumped at the chance. Go 5-0 without Mo and laugh.
