Does Bane have a bad contract?

I’ve been wondering this, but do you think Desmond Bane is overpaid? He currently has an average salary of 39 million dollars. That’s close to what superstars like Trae Young and Luka Doncic make. I love Bane and think he is the 4th best SG in the league, but I wonder if this contract might have been a little bad.

  1. you’re not gonna get reasonable answers here tbh. if you’re asking me, yeah it’s a overpay. we’re paying guys like crazy when in reality we haven’t done much. roast me

  2. We are in an era where you have to overpay role players/fringe all stars to keep them on small market teams.

  3. [He’s objectively one of the best 3 level scorers in the game](https://x.com/The_BBall_Index/status/1755245032292905060?s=20)

Almost all of that is while being treated at the #1 option. Ridiculous question.

Comparing him to guys who inked their contracts years before is crazy lol.

Luka will make a whole lot more than what he makes now when extension time roles around. We’re not choosing paying bane over magically rostering Luka instead.

  4. Lmao ofc it’s a good deal. As @semanticgoblin said, he’s a monster scorer; one of the 20 best bucket getters in the league; top 5 when considered for his position. he’s also a locker room leader. You pay dudes like him in hopes of building around him. Anyone calling this an overpay is just not paying attn

  5. Yes it’s an overpay, but you aren’t gonna keep him if you don’t overpay him, that’s just the reality of a small market team. And you’d rather want to overpay someone like Bane than to not have him at all.

  6. you’re not gonna get reasonable answers here tbh. if you’re asking me, yeah it’s an overpay. we’re paying homegrown guys like crazy instead of letting them leave and spending money on studs like Chandler Parsons and all the free agents itching to come to Memphis. roast me

  7. If Bane was to go into Restricted free agency this offseason, guarantee another team would offer him the same contract (for example, Orlando has cap space and could use a floor spacer like Bane). Sure Memphis could match, but the terms might be less favourable (shorter length, player option etc.)

  8. It’s one of the best contracts in the league, because we’re paying him for his prime years, rather than giving a 28-29 year old max extension based on past performance.

  9. It’s a fair deal especially later on as long as he can stay healthy. His past 2 seasons have been cut short by injuries.
