He has some warts but overall hard to dispute the results. With that said, he needs a playoff series win this year.

  2. He’s given us stability and consistent improvement while generally being well liked by our players. Demands are going to shift towards being a “championship level” coach, and I hope the trajectory continues.

  3. Easily top 3 wolves coach, I would take him over thibs for sure. He’s somewhere in the adelman and flip conversation.

He has some things he needs to work on but I think he’s also constantly improving, the players love him, and the bench vibes are better then any other wolves team I’ve watched.

He’s taken a really hard job of figuring out how to balance Rudy and Kat, while also developing ANT.

Look at guys like NAW and Vandos development, both were discarded as throw in trades and he maximized there abilities and value..

  4. I’m sure we all complained about his offense at one point or another. Or his game management. But his positives severely outweigh his negatives.

For one, he get he’s guys to play and commit to defense. Whether it was the switch everything, blitzing style with Vando and Crew. Or this Rudy drop defense. The players committed to it.

And he’s been able to get a lot of out of his role players. Naz had blossomed into a legit role player and boardline startering caliber these last 2 years. Guys that were thown into trades as filler like Vanderbilt and Alexander-Walker, he made them into legit role players. Conely was considered washed and injury prone.

  5. I would rather have him than any other coach in the NBA (with Spo, Pop and Malone as close seconds)

Yes he has his flaws but I’m almost certain he will be the best Timberwolves coach of all time by the end of his tenure.

    I adore Finchy

(Right now he is behind Flip but I feel like he will pass him by the end of his career)

  6. What he’s been able to accomplish given how he started, the drama with Gersson, and the challenging roster he had to figure out he’s been pretty damn awesome. He’s been through a lot that most head coaches do not have to deal with and he’s lead us to tops in the West.

  7. My biggest gripe with Finch was his inability to utilize timeouts when the other team would go on runs and take over the game with their momentum. Especially in the 4th quarter of games, the Memphis Grizzlies series from two seasons ago comes to mind… Finch has corrected that for the most part this season. Got a lot of love for Finch.

  8. It seems like he really knows how to get on players asses when needed and commands respect while at the same time having them really like him. That’s kind of a rare sweet spot in today’s game.

Imo his tenure has already gone better than I ever could have hoped for.

I like how he seems to be a pretty laid back easy going guy who likes to drink beer by the lake like the rest of us. No doubt Thibs is a great basketball coach too, but also just a miserable SOB.

  9. Remember how bad the Wolves would come out of half time and people would complain about no adjustments being made? Well, this season we are number 1 (iirc) in net rating in the 3rd quarter. Credit to Finch for adjusting well and having the guys ready to go out and win the second half of the game.

Hes done a lot to improve upon his weaknesses and get better at what he was already good at. Love Finchy

  10. I don’t know many other coaching staffs in the association that could have made this roster work. Very impressed with him and think the best is yet to come

  11. I think he’s been a great fit.

Is he perfect? Absolutely not. I’ll be the first to admit he puts questionable rotations out there sometimes that really lack offense. The fourth quarter lapses were unacceptable. While I think the lion’s share of the blame is on the players, some of it does fall to coaching.

I have zero interest in the coaching carousel right now.

Players seem to really respect and like him, which might be one of the most important factors to consider. They’ve bought in and are behind him. He’s direct, blunt, and intentional.

We are first in the west, we have a concrete identity as a defensive powerhouse. The offense, while frustrating at times, is improving at the right time.

Hard 8 or a soft 9 grade from me.

  12. No one can doubt his development prowess. Our players have continued to rapidly improve under him as has team chemistry. He’s not always the best in-game coach but no coach is perfect. Think he’s doing fine overall. A lot of my opinion will ride on how he performs in the playoffs this season.

  13. He has given us two playoff appearances (soon to be 3) across his first 3 seasons as coach, which is already more than we had across the entire period from 2005-when he got hired. You can attribute that to our roster as well, but he’s for sure brought our team consistency and the most success we’ve had in nearly 20 years (gotta see if he can get us a playoff series win though)
