[Aaron] (Dbacks selling D2C package for $100/year). Twins could have taken a similar approach. If in the $40M range, they’d need to sell 400k subscriptions at $100 per to equal the revenue. No chance of selling anywhere near that many – why this whole situation is a mess

  1. Had to trim the title for character limit:

[Tweet 1](https://twitter.com/AaronGleeman/status/1760829522159538460) – Here’s how the Diamondbacks are selling their TV package, direct to consumer and with no blackouts, after being dropped by Diamond Sports Group. Twins could have taken a similar approach, but instead decided to re-up with Bally Sports North for one year.

[Tweet 2](https://twitter.com/AaronGleeman/status/1760834557710844010) – Twins have kept their new TV contract details private. If it’s in the $40 million range, they’d need to sell 400,000 subscriptions at $100 per season to equal the revenue. There’s no chance of selling anywhere near that many, and that math is why this whole situation is a mess.

  2. I really don’t care what the twins make….

If the twins make it a pain in the ass to be a customer / fan / viewer because they feel they’ll get a couple bucks more then “fuck you” right back at them.

The whole short term maximize profits / make things a pain for the fans thing is dumb.   They learned that with blackouts and TV broadcasts long ago…

  3. Also it’s very possible that the DBacks had a different choice than the Twins did. Bally decided they didn’t want them before, maybe they didn’t want them again. It’s easier to pick the fan-friendly broad access option when that’s the only option you have

  4. There’s gotta be some cost to go D2C too isn’t there? Or would going through Amazon cancel that? Ultimately, would 400k subscribers even get you there?

  5. Luckily, they chose the route that guarantees them more money for one year that they aren’t spending while also keeping a large portion of the fan base from watching the games. Great long term business plan.

  6. FWIW, based on that survey from last year it seems the Pohlads are _very_ interested in putting a year round sports book in Target Field. That would certainly be a revenue stream that would supplement TV losses.

  7. I love how every option is awful for the fans. It shouldn’t be hard to watch the Minnesota Twins on TV when you live in Minnesota.

Any option that doesn’t include Twins games being available on as many cable packages AND streaming platforms is a middle finger to the fans. I should not have to pay $100 a year to watch them either.

  8. The part I don’t understand is why they didn’t at least negotiate to have the Twins be a part of the $20/month Bally Sports app direct subscription like the Wolves
