[DeRusha] From the interviews I’ve done with Joe Pohlad and Dave, I suspect this season’s outcome was partially out of their hands… If MLB says ‘don’t launch your own streaming thing’, they don’t launch their own streaming thing.

  1. I understand why MLB would’ve preferred the Twins avoid trying to setup an independent streaming deal for just this season but is that including using the MLB media infrastructure just like the D-Backs, Padres, and Rockies are doing?

I suppose once the option of renewing with Bally’s became available MLB probably told the Twins either they take that option (for $40m or whatever) or they join the other 3 teams but MLB isn’t going to supplement the revenue.

  2. I’m mostly disappointed that the MLB offices did not seem ready to go with a viable financial model / mode for distribution. The technology for MLB.tv / streaming _is_ there, but it seems that cable & satellite distribution never really got beyond what they offered to the markets last year.

  3. So… That means the Pohlads will increase payroll once the Twins are able to negotiate streaming? In 2025? Right? Right?

  4. I understand and forgive them for that.

What I don’t forgive is keeping the spending spigots turned off once the deal was signed. Im still hopeful they are playing chicken with the remaining market and have a few splashes left in them for a MAT or Duvall type of player and maybe a fringey pitcher, but we will see.
