Some 2023 Tigers who won’t return this year: Maton: 293 PA, 63 OPS+. Haase: 282 PA, 45 OPS+. Short: 253 PA, 73 OPS+. Schoop: 151 PA, 53 OPS+. Nevin: 111 PA, 72 OPS+. That’s 1,090 PA with < 75 OPS+ that will be replaced.

  1. Miggy had 370 PA at an 86 OPS+ at the DH position as well, where league average OPS is much higher.

Some of the replacements for these players are likely to fail, but still. Looks like we might finally have a team that isn’t primarily populated with minor league caliber players.

  2. Haase had a 45 ops+ but his replacement Kelly only had 50 ops+ so it’s not much of an upgrade there although I guess he’ll be getting less at bats than Haase did and more of them will go to Rogers.

  3. Every time I see his name i just cringe at how long the Maton Experiment last in 2023. It was truely amazing.

  4. I try not to get too high since its spring optimism probably all around the country about everyones team but, man, if we stay healthy + adding better talent around the margins like this- how aren’t we winning/at least within 5 games of this division come the end of the year I just want to have a team worth watching in sept this year and see what we have before really hoping to contend next year!

  5. I thought after 2022 that Haase was putting it together but last season was such a regression. A damn shame, too – I like the guy and still hope he can find consistency.

  6. Man, I’m still sad after the 2021 season how it ended for Haase and Schoop. Those guys contributed to the most fun team in years then forgot how to baseball.

  7. I didn’t think I was ready to move on from Maton, he seemed to have upside and he was young. I trust Harris though.
