  1. Agreed. Anyone who thinks .78 ppg and .46 ppg on 11 and 5.25 million dollar contracts respectively aren’t getting their moneys worth are, quite frankly, stupid. We need more contracts like this, not less.

  2. Leafs are very hot right now, but Tavares has not been worth his contract. Leafs will be in a way better position when his 11m is off the books

  3. Bert has had the potential to get a hat trick in multiple games , he just misses open nets and wafs on the puck more consistently than he scores . He had a good game but will disappear for another 16 games before he scores again

  4. Tavares ***is*** washed though. The goal he scored against Vegas was his first 5v5 goal since his 1000 point game, which was in ***mid December***

Tavares is being paid 11 million dollars and he has SEVENTEEN GOALS on the year. and seven of those goals are on the power play. He has TEN 5v5 goals this year.

  5. Lol one good game by Bert and 3 points in Tavares last 6. Was that good enough to post this ? Neither guy anywhere near where they should be.

  6. I’m fine with Tavares being an overpaid but above average 3C to ride out the deal. That’s what you get with any UFA contract. The tail end is *never* the best value, but so long as we have a cost controlled 2C in front of him it is smoothed out somewhat.

  7. I think when it comes to Tavares people are saying he is “washed up” for an 11m paid player. On a purely skill/production scale is he “washed up?” absolutely not.

When it comes to Bert, he isn’t useless, but he isn’t what a lot hoped. I was personally hoping for a solid top 6er that could slot in as needed, leaving the team less reliant on players like Jankrok to slot in at the top 6 (love seeing Jankrok up there but he can go dry fast).

I think with Bert, seeing a player come in at 5.5m people expect a lot when these days 5.5m isn’t really that much. If you look at like players, there are some getting paid less, some getting paid more. Anyone, like you no offence, that says they can’t wait to see him in the playoffs, just doesn’t do it for me. He has 1 playoff series under his belt. This isn’t a joke when I say the Leafs need someone that can bring second and third round playoff energy. I hope he lights up too in the playoffs, but lets not act like it will just happen. Matthews is top goal scorer right now and he had a 7 game stretch where he did nothing, and I think another stretch too with little production. I think for Matthews, those lows in production are not the normal, him scoring is the normal. When it comes to Bert, his normal isn’t his playoff series in Boston, he has done nothing to show that is who he can be here. Yet, he did it in Boston, so maybe he can pull it off again when it matters most, but I think he got paid off that series and he hasn’t lived up to it here.

That all being said about Bert, 5.5m realistically isn’t horrible, comparing him to Hyman I’d want Hyman, comparing him to Bunting, I’d want Bunting but a Bunting that gets 40PIM, which isn’t possible.

If you posted before Bert got a hatty, he was at 7 goals. Jankrok had 10, Knies has 10, heck, Bobby has 9. Point being the hatty is a significant % of his total goals now, 30%.

All this to say, at the 11m level, Tavares isn’t there anymore. Bert isn’t useless, but I think a lot of people expected more. You can toss out the general “look at the advanced stats” as your argument, you can also watch him, and again, be faced with a lot of feelings of “that’s all he’s got?” and I’d say his advanced stats don’t actually help him in an argument, especially if you start comparing him to other players. Take a look at him compared to DeBrusk for example.

  8. Regular season doesn’t matter (obviously it does a bit, we gotta make the playoffs)

The playoffs is when Berts, Domi, Reaves, etc will be evaluated. I don’t care that they’ve had a meh season, they were brought in for the post season and we will evaluate them then.

Everyone is trending in the right direction, hope we can keep building confidence and momentum into April and beyond.

  9. Tavares is he good yeah, but not worth the salary he makes let alone his shitty non existent leadership.

  10. One hat trick doesn’t suddenly make Bert useful. He’s been dead weight on the team most of the season. His only redeeming factor is that he’s not his uncle.
