  1. Great point Merril. Teams should avoid drafting Maye at all costs… until about pick 3 or so, idk

  2. So who do you like Merril?

    >His comments on (Caleb) Williams, however, are very strong. Hoge offered harsh criticism of Williams, where he believes there is nothing special about the USC star’s game. He admittedly only watched three of his games from this year and three from the previous season (so far). It might not be enough film to claim that strong but it is the way he feels right now.

    >“First of all, his ability to throw on the run is very disturbing,” Hoge told NBC Sports Chicago. “It is very inaccurate and it’s all over the place. There’s a ton of RPO, which nobody is going to RPO themselves to a Super Bowl in our league. … You gotta push the ball down the field. There are times when he does that. He doesn’t play with a lot of anticipation because of all the clean pockets that exist for him.

    >“The thing that’s disturbing me right now is his inability to be consistent on the move as a thrower. And he’s willing to do that a lot more than he has to. You don’t have that choice in our league. … I don’t see anything magical with his arm. There’s not enough there at this point for me to be like we’re getting rid of Justin Fields and bring this guy in, who’s never played in the National Football League and has to overcome all of those hurdles just to give us a chance to win.”

  3. He also hates Caleb Williams fwiw.

I would be ecstatic if we got Maye. Hes imo the second best qb in the draft and is only 21. He played behind a shitty Oline last year and had no good wide recievers unlike Daniels who was throwing to the #2 wr in the country.

  4. I basically stop listening to draft takes once the season ends. If you’re talking about it during the season, I assume you actually know what you’re talking about. If you’re talking about it now, it’s going to be hot takes and smokescreens from teams. I think Maye will definitely be a Top 3 pick, as he was projected all season

  5. So not extremely athletic is a 6’4” 240lb QB who runs for 1200 yards and 16 TDs in 2 seasons. I’ll take that any day of the week and twice on Sunday. I don’t want my QB to be a runner, I want a passer first who can run when necessary.

I hope Washington keeps eating this up and he falls to us.

  6. Merrill Hoge was right a few times like a decade ago and hasn’t been accurate before or after

    He also wears dumb ties

  7. If we don’t take you know who from THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY 😬, trade down. If someone offers us a fuckin random, like the reported 3 first rounders by Minnesota, you take that deal and manipulate the fuckin board.

Hell, 2 first rounders and Jefferson would be fine as well.

  8. Who cares what any of these guys have to say and any “mock draft experts” do as well. It comes down to where the coaching staff and management sees this team on April 26th and that’s it.

If we have a good FA period? Let’s fire up and try to get a QB if we can support them. If we have a bad FA period? Maybe kick the can and trade back or choose the best player, cause the indicator then will be we’ll probably have another tough season or two.

That all said, we won’t know until April and it sure as hell doesn’t matter what any of these writers think. All it does is confirm or deny confirmation bias from fans with untrained eyes to set up for clicks and arguments on the internet, which this guy clearly succeeded in.

  9. Hoge is very hit and miss.

He hated Manziel…but also hated Rodgers.

Loved the obvious pick in Luck, also loved EJ Manuel to Buffalo.

    So.

  10. It’s weird seeing the media cool on Maye. The guy has been compared to Justin Herbert for over a year and suddenly he’s trash.

I’ll happily take Maye at 3.

  11. Drake has a hard time adjusting to defenses and his reads get really scrambled which leads to a lot of holding the ball and trying to make a play. This level of hero ball is arguable necessary for the system he’s in and the talent he’s surrounded by. He makes a lot of really bad decisions, and his platform mechanics are borderline mac jones woeful. The difference is Drake is huge and has a huge arm to compensate for this. I think with a good O line early in his career and a timing based offensive system based off leverages (like ours) he would really shine. He’s not as accurate as Mac was, and his anticipation isn’t as good as Mac out of college, and his decisions weren’t as good as Mac out of college, but he’s a better thrower of the ball. I could see him being Justin Herbert at best, or Trey Lance at worst.

  12. Lol these hot take guys can go fuck themself. It’s that time of year and we all know it.

  13. Takes like this is because there isn’t any financial repercussions for being wrong all the time. Just hit 1 out of every 50 takes and then always go back to that one.

  14. him not being a first round talent is a gross exaggeration but he’s definitely not in the same league as Caleb. There are some red flags for sure that this sub in general just seems to kinda ignore completely. I would prefer the Pats trade up to 1 and get the only real Generation type QB in the draft if anything but would settle for Maye or Daniels. Daniels has the higher floor right now with his dynamic running ability but Maye could end up having better longevity. If Maye is drafted I wouldn’t mind them signing Russell Wilson for a year so he doesn’t need to jump right onto the field.

  15. For the record, I’m all for drafting a QB with our first, but I’m a complete realist, and I don’t think we will actually draft an impact QB. I say that because in the time we had Brady with a small list of rotating backups, the Bills, Dolphins and Jets went through about 60+ QBs and only recently got their impactful QBs. The odds say we will go through a bunch of QBs we hope will be great, but will rather good to average. Here’s a list, though I may have missed a few.

    Bills 18 QBs (’99-Present)
    Doug Flutie
    Rob Johnson
    Alex Van Pelt
    Drew Bledsoe
    J.P. Losman
    Kelly Holcomb
    Trent Edwards
    Ryan Fitzpatrick
    Brian Brohm
    EJ Manuel
    Thad Lewis
    Jeff Tuel
    Kyle Orton
    Tyrod Taylor
    Nathan Peterman
    Derek Anderson
    Matt Barkley
    Josh Allen

    Dolphins 23 QBs (’99-Present)
    Dan Marino
    Damon Huard
    Jay Fiedler
    Ray Lucas
    Brian Griese
    A.J. Feely
    Sage Rosenfels
    Gus Frerotte
    Daunte Culpepper
    Joey Harrington
    Cleo Lemon
    Trent Green
    John Beck
    Chad Pennington
    Chad Henne
    Tyler Thigpen
    Matt Moore
    Ryan Tannehill
    Jay Cutler
    Brock Osweller
    Ryan Fitzpatrick
    Josh Rosen
    Tua Tagovailoa

    Jets 21 QBs (’99-Present)
    Vinny Testaverde
    Glenn Foley
    Ray Lucas
    Rick Mirer
    Chad Pennington
    Quincy Carter
    Brooks Bollinger
    Kellen Clemens
    Brett Favre
    Mark Sanchez
    Greg McElroy
    Geno Smith
    Michael Vick
    Ryan Fitzpatrick
    Bryce Petty
    Josh McCown
    Sam Darnold
    Luke Falk
    Trevor Siemian
    Joe Flacco
    Zach Wilson
    Aaron Rodgers

    Patriots
    Post-Brady
    Cam Newton
    Brian Hoyer
    Mac Jones
    Malik Cunningham
    Bailey Zappe

  16. Merrill Hodges has way more misses than hits on QBs. He once Brian Brhom(who) would be a better qb than Aaron Rodgers. He also loved Josh Rosen.
