[ESPN] The league’s competition committee has officially begun reviewing whether the game has tilted too far toward offense and whether changes need to be implemented to achieve better balance

I really hope they bring back hand checking. Imagine Vando being allowed to actually play physical defense.

  1. lmao bringing back handchecking would be the funniest timeline

IMO you can sign Metta to a 10-day rn and he’d clamp a bunch of the top guys atm

  2. It definitely is. Maybe not drastically titled towards offense but they 100% have the advantage. They did it to make it more entertaining to the average viewer who doesn’t want to see defense

  3. LMAO. You know they’re not doing shit. They always introduce new rules, call it for the first 2 weeks and digress back to the shitty officiating we’ve come to know.

  4. IMO i think with how talented players are, you would probably get more flopping and more FTs if handchecking was added back into the nba.

  5. Good. Or? Give us our deserved free throws. Specifically LeBron and AD. They live in the paint, get hacked all the time but get damn near no free throws

  6. There’s a really simple, easy fix that would make a big change in the positive for the defense:

Stop calling fouls when the OFFENSIVE player jumps into the defender to draw contact.

This has become such a plague that even casual fans can see this in real time without a slowed down replay. The refs give the ball handler/shooter way too much benefit of doubt. You change this, and it’ll clean up a lot of the problems

  7. Make it so if a player has a flagrant foul committed against them, they have the option to fight the guilty party. If the player opts for the fight, an octagon should emerge from the ground with a ref on standby. One 3 minute round and we’re back in the game.

  8. Then how will they have more record breaking performances? This is noise. More rules they can selectively enforce to influence gambling results and promote narratives.

  9. It wouldn’t come up all that often but I do prefer the international rule on goaltending.

  10. I feel like they say some variation of this damn near every year and nothing really changes

  11. If they bring back hand checking you’re gonna see James harden go to the free throw line at least 10 times before the half.
Sometimes these goons in suits don’t really know what consequences a rule will have until it’s too late lol, offensive players are gonna find loopholes for everything.

I rather we focus on obliterating the 3 second defensive violation, dumbest thing and kills momentum so many times.

  12. If they get rid of the “euro step” and start calling traveling again, the scores will come WAY down!

  13. Teams shoot like 30/40 3’s a game these days at like 36%. When you make that many 3’s, a) obviously 3>2 so that already contributes to higher scoring.

But b) actually physically being on the court it leads to a much more wide open court, which leads to larger driving lanes (and more of them), which leads to a scrambling defense, which leads to even more open 3’s and open buckets at the rim.

THIS makes up the bulk of the high scoring, and I’m sorry but nothing that can be done on an individual player level will change this.

For example, removing defensive 3 can work in the short term but it won’t take long at all for the game to evolve like it did with the 4-man and for the last of a dying breed of traditional big men to officially die out as teams start drafting and opting to ONLY ever have a Chet-type sniper at center and now you’ve exacerbated the “issue”.

The only legitimate thing is for defensive rotations to be on point behind the play, hence why you don’t see the same level of scoring in the playoffs. But asking these guys to play playoff level defense during an 82 game regular season is genuinely unrealistic if you know at all how tiring it is to play such intense defense even on a lower level of basketball. You inevitably will get MORE injuries and MORE load managing this way.

This is the post-Curry/post-D’Antoni Rockets era of basketball and I think people should finally just accept it.

    Downvote if you want, idc

  14. Game was changed for shooters, now they are taking advantage and we will see it slide back towards the downhill players on offense. Depending on when they make changes, Bron will have seen the full evolution.

  15. Stop the little tick tack fouls that slow the game down and more no calls off close calls between blocking and charging fouls
