[Schwartz] Saquon Barkley’s return to the Giants will require him having a better feel of his market value this time around. “Saquon may be in a different place now than he was then in terms of understanding the market and the business side of it.”

  1. I can see Barkley being upset at a lot of people – former agents, himself – but if he holds any ill will at all against the Giants, after passing up a deal that would have set the market – he needs to get his head examined.

  2. If Saquon truly only cares about the dollars and not winning, then he’d be foolish not to stay with the Giants, event at a below market rate deal, just for the connections being a part of the Giants provides. The legacy of being a Giant Lifer is more than the few million that he would get from a different team. Look at how many Giants Lifers are integrated in other areas: Strahan, Manning, even guys like Tuck or Osi, etc.

If he wants to win (and hey, I can’t blame him if that’s his primary goal), then he should run and never look back

  3. To me it has never been a question of if the Giants wanted to keep/pay him, rather it’s been Saquon himself (or maybe his former agents) that have been the reason for the failure to reach an agreement.

I’ve said this before and even on a similar post that was removed:

We’ll see what the RB market looks like this off-season but I can’t imagine RBs are going to be getting better offers and contracts than last year. Despite the increased cap, it’s just not a valuable position unless you’re putting up MVP numbers like McCaffrey.

I have no issue with a player trying to maximize his value but I do wonder how often Saquon thinks about the multiple offers he rejected last season and wants to kick his own ass.

  4. That’s a quote from Schoen? The picture implies it, but I’m not sure. It’s pretty condescending if so.

  5. Did Saquon play behind the league’s worst offensive line in history over the span of his time here? Absolutely, YES!

Did that awful line lead to more injuries and less production than he would have otherwise had behind even a decent o-line? Also, absolutely, YES!

Did those facts reduce the market for his services? Also, absolutely, YES!

Is that unfair? Also, absolutely, YES!

Despite all of that, should Saquon have accepted the extensions/deals that the Giants offered to him? Also, absolutely, YES!

Saquon’s switch of agents was ill-times, to say the least.

Look, Jones was in a similar position to Saquon, but he took the deal and now that he’s been fully beaten into the ground and had his neck completely destroyed by history’s absolute worst o-line, he at least has more millions to rest that head of his on at night.

As a Giants fan I wish Saquon had taken the deal because then maybe Schoen would have used the tag on Jones!

  6. If I’m Saquon, I’m leaving. Better teams will pay more. He’s been severely disrespected by the GM several times and unappreciated for his time here. Fans blaming Saquon, the GM paying a QB that everyone outside of our building knows is trash.

  7. 1. Barkley wanted to be paid like a top 5 RB (financially) in the market….well, he was. (technically, Kamara missed many games due to suspension, where he wasn’t paid the actual salary his contract originally said)
    2. Barkley wanted to be paid like a top 3 RB (financially) in the market…well, he was (his base salary was tied for 6th, but with his signing bonus, it moved him basically tied for 3rd with Derrick Henry).

When you look at all of the RB’s in the top 5-8 by contract, CMC actually was wire to wire total yard winner in the NFL in 2023….the guy DESERVES his contract where it is. But after that, you have Derrick Henry (who likely won’t get paid), Kyren Williams) who is on a rookie deal, James Cook (who is on a rookie deal), D’Andre Swift (on a rookie deal).

In order to find Barkley’s total yards, you gotta go ALL THE WAY down to #13. If you want to go by TD’s, he’s 18th.

IF you wanted to truly get your worth, you needed to be inside the top 5 of those stats…you’re not. Barkley is my favorite player in football, but he’s contract worth is nowhere near the top 5 anymore. Giants should offer him a 2-3 year base of $10 mil (even make it guaranteed) with incentives to get to $12-$14 mil…if he walks from that, then he walks from it…the guy is not going to get a better deal than that…period.

  8. I still think a player like Saquon for 10/mil a year is a steal.

Yes he plays RB. Yes that position is undervalued. Look at what you pay 3rd WRs and tell me you wouldn’t rather have Barkley over some 3rd WR.

  9. NYC is such a huge market, surely he makes more in endorsements if he stays here even if it’s a couple mill less than what some other team might pay him… stay and become a Giants legend, I think it’s a no brainer

  10. Imagine Quads running behind Eagles Oline. Terrifying to think but could be a reality. They have great cap space

  11. Saquon probably should have taken that 14 million a year for 3 years offer that he was so fucking insulted by, huh?

    Bro played himself.

  12. Sure would’ve been awesome for them to practice this same shit they preaching with Daniel Jones bum ass contract.

Should have franchised tagged him and signed Saquon to a bit more of what he got for like 3yrs.. way better output, production, team value, fan respect (even the disrespect is on a higher tier than Jones being terrible), more accomplishments, misses less games (amazingly).. and well wasn’t terrible from his very inception into the league..

What would this headline read like with Daniel Jones as the player? Compare to what he got last year to what he should be getting now.. that’s at least $10M-$15M in savings for just one year… LOL haha.. fuc this guy.

  13. If his agents advised him to pass on that contract offer they should fire themselves

  14. If the NYG were to offer a 3yr 25M deal (19GTD), it would be hard for Barkley to say no. You could structure this as 8m/year with a 3M dead cap in year 3 if he’s cut (or 9M salary)
