  1. Something I keep reminding myself of: if Von actually did get back to his pre-injury self, well, that’d be exactly what we need on defense (in addition to actually being healthy in the postseason for once). Unfortunately it just doesn’t seem likely

  2. Nor would he.

I cannot stress this enough; I say it over and over and over. This fandom needs to calm its tits about Von because we just went through the same thing with Tre White.

The conventional timeline for return from an ACL is a year after the injury you’re activated from IR, and **a year and a half** after the injury is when you return to your old form.

People expecting production from Von were setting poor expectations for themselves. Whether the Bills should’ve activated him is a separate question, but being charitable, they were probably hoping for a deep playoff run and for Von to round into some decent form by that time. But that’s a reflection of their judgment, not of his ability.

  3. Where could he go lol? We can’t cut him this year without getting buried in dead cap and no one would trade for him.

We all just need to hope he’s back to at least being a positive role player.

  4. It’s reasonable to think he can come back and perform better in 2024. He isn’t likely to come back to his 2022 pre-injury form but he hurt himself in late November 2022 so the likelihood he was going to come back in 2023 to anything close to what he was, was simply not going to happen esp at his age. I think he can have a productive 2024 given another full off-season to rehab and get healthy.

Von is by far the team’s worst contract (in all honesty only Von and Knox are “bad” contracts which is fairly good roster management) but I think that the Bills will get more value out of it in 2024.
