  1. that’s kinda crazy for someone who doesn’t even have a .500 winning percentage. the sabres must’ve really shuffled through the coaches over the years.

  2. I will take this opportunity to remind everyone of 3 things.

    1) After this season *finishes*, Don Granato will have coached the Sabres for 3 and 1/3 seasons. Everyone points out his tenure as “the 7th longest” or whatever, but it’s kind of an average term more so than long. There’s just been a bunch of coaching turn-over in the past few years.

    2) His record will have more wins than some of our other coaches by virtue of ties no longer existing. Imagine if Scotty Bowman had the benefit of OT and shoot outs giving him some coin-flip W’s in place of ties.

    3) Nolan was great at getting a bunch of lunch-pail players to buy in and play hard, but if not for prime Dominik Hasek he’d be nearly forgotten. He also coached here 3 and 2/3 seasons (including the tank year and the year prior), so Meatballs closing in is not that surprising.

  3. It’s so weird to think that. Throw in they tend to get hot as hell this time of year so there’s a real chance he gets past John Muckler this season especially if Thompson and Cozens hit full steam ahead again.

  4. He saw us out of the darkest timeline. I appreciate him for it and I believe there are ways that he keeps his job into next year, even if we don’t make the playoffs.

Frankly, unless we can lineup an absolutely home run coach (which I doubt we can), worse things could happen. I think it’s very possible that this is the lull before the storm of our window, which is good for Donny because he won’t hang onto the job in the offseason if we don’t go on a tear and make that pretty apparent.

Our Goals Against is apparently first in the league in 2024. Our top scorers are way down across the whole team. We are the youngest team in the league. We have a legit #1 goalie and a 1b on the way. We have a deep prospect pool to fill up roster spots. We have elite defensemen about to enter their prime.

    We have Zachary Ruben Benson.

Then again, fuck it, we should have made the playoffs.

    Argh.
